Do you want an honest answer to your question, or are you making an uneducated comment? I have noticed that many askers on this site don't want the truth, or answers. Their minds are already closed, and their hearts have no sincerity. They just want to jack with people about their faith. I would suggest you go to the source and read it with an open heart. What religion are you? What is the source of their wisdom? Go there and see if it doesn't make you want to quit generalizing about what others believe. Seek wisdom where you can find it, and develop a deeper sense of respect.
I worked with a Muslim lady once, and religion was never brought up by either one of us. We worked well together as two people with mutual respect and courtesy for one another. She was brought up Muslim and I was brought up Christian. I did not feel the need to change her, nor she I. God has a plan for all of us. Okay?

mike d,
I don't call that intolerance. Do you think that you worded your question right?
"Why do Christians teach tolerance, but also teach everyone to spread the word of Jesus?"
Because they know it's the truth. That's confidence. In no way is there something about intolerance in your question. But you are inferring that there is.
"That doesn't sound like tolerance to me."
You are making about as much sense as those that think Hezbollah was just defending Lebanon. The Christians that I know allow others to believe what they will. We don't practice intolerance as being the infliction of pain or taking away of rights or chopping of the hands of little girls (which actually happened) who disagree with us. Those things sound like intolerance.
Here on this board, we debate. Debate might communicate intolerance, but is supportive of differing views. No one can force another. Unlike in Muslim countries.
"Why don't they leave people of other religions alone?"
This is a question board on the religious section. Why don't those that can't handle it here, go to the sports section? Hmmmm?

The teachings of our Lord should come from someone patient.. someone who has a gentle heart, someone who has zeal for our Lord, Jesus Christ. Sometimes, we get so excited, so filled with our Lords love, that we just cant help our burstings! More than anything, we just want to share Gods love with others.. and be a witness to how our lives have been changed by our Lord.
Tolerance.. please don't confuse our zealousness for disrespect, or intolerance.. that is not what we are about. Please forgive those of us that fail to show you tolerance, fail to show you respect.. or even the simplest of kindness. I'm sure you and others like you, would never be that way towards us.
May God bless you..

Tolerance is a word misunderstood in modern times.
If I *tolerate* my husband's music, it is because I have to live with it whether I like it or not. It is his opinion that it is good, and my opinion that I don't like it. They are only opinions, and not facts.
However...
I somehow manage to lock myself in my closet, and my husband tells me, "You are never going to get out of there, unless you get the 5/16 wrench from the toolbox in there, and twist the ring around the doorknob off". I have a choice at this point. 1.) I can adamantly believe the 11/32 wrench will work just as well 2.) I can sit in there and rot or 3.) I can listen to his advice, since he knows what he's talking about, when it comes to tools and fixing things.
Welp, I choose option 1. "Hun, you've got to listen to me, that wrench will never fit, and there's a good chance you'll break the knob". Ok, fine. I compromise. "Dear, I love you, so I'll compromise, and I'll use a 7/24 wrench". He sighs in dismay on the other side of the door... it's obvious to him that I'm not going to be free for quite some time. Time passes, and he speaks to me again... and again I compromise. And I'm still stuck. So he goes and calls the repair guy.
The repair guy says, "Use the 5/16 wrench like your husband told you to". I'm sick of hearing and I tell him, "I'll use whatever wrench makes me happy, now go and fix someone's toilet or something". He shrugs and walks off.
My husband comes back and begs with me... "Please, use the wrench. I just made dinner, and yours is getting cold". I finally, and reluctantly give in. I use the 5/16, and I am free. After a joyous hug, I look back at the door, and in the good light, I can finally see that only the 5/16 could fit around the knob.
There are some things that are absolutes that cannot be compromised on. Truth is one of them. It is true that only the 5/16 wrench would free me... nothing else would work. Love is another one. If someone says they love you, they will do whatever it takes to save you, even from yourself. My husband showed love for me, in his adamancy in trying to get me to use the proper wrench to free myself.
It is out of love that we Christians preach about Jesus. It is because we love you, and want you to be free from the risk of Hell. And it is that we speak truth, when we say, "Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life; that nobody can go to the Father, except through Him"... because if we did not know these things to be true, we would not be speaking them with such urgency.
If we did not speak out of love, we would be little more than the repair guy... he didn't care what happened to me. I was just a paying customer. If I didn't listen, so what, not his problem... it's not like I'm *his* wife. He just got paid to do it, and then left as soon as he came.
I hope you can understand why we are viewed to be intolerant. It is because we don't want anyone to perish in Hell, and simply leaving you alone leaves that possibility wide open.

Sometimes people tend to want to always be the one to step up and pretend like they know Gods word so well. I feel that if u are the type that u are so against someone elses religion, before u judge them first find out about it. Then u should still be open to accept other people religion regardless of what it is.

When Christians say tolerance, they mean tolerance of Christianity by everyone else. All other religions are wrong and therefore do not need to be tolerated.

Because Christians feel that spreading the word of God is pleasing in God's sight. And it is. We only want to serve our God, and witnessing to others is serving him. Leaving other religions alone, would make it less to have others have eternal life. You can pick. Christians are doing a good deed. Open the eyes!

Those of the True Christian Faith never "push" our faith on to anyone... That would be against God's Will. We offer, to those seeking, to share The Good News of The Salvation Message. That is all.
The Christian Faith can not be spread at the point of the sword. All who have perverted God's will and tried to impose their corupted so-called christian ways on other have all failed. usualy very hard in their downfall. ie: the crusades and the Spanish "explorations".
