I mean when you think about it, religion has done more bad for mankind than it has good. For example: the Holocaust, the crusades, Al-Qaeda, the Palestine/Israel conflict, 9/11, the KKK, the Thirty Years war, the French wars of religion, and the colonization of Africa are just a few of the things that religion has brought mankind.

"Religion" is almost never a good thing. Religion, though i'm not sure of the dictionary definition, is basically a set of rules of how people have to live, and if you are wrong, your are evil. Faith on the other hand is living for what you believe in but not pushing your views on others. Religion has caused more death in the world than any other cause, but a person's faith is an individual thing, and it affects how that person lives their life, not allowing them to persecute others for being different

If you have the right faith (yes I said right), Christianity, then yes it is very much a good thing. But for those you get trapped in a false faith, praying to false gods, it a bad thing becuase all thees false religions a stemed from people who dont like something and Bible says and they go and create a false religion that suites the way they want to think. And unfortunately the pull other people down with them.
But if you want the true God, the true faith, the one that will do good for you, rather than hurt you and hurt other people, then defenitly Christianity is the way to go.
John 14:6-Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Jesus said this becuase the Father is the one that will decide weather you get into heaven or not. But the only way He will let you into heaven is if you accepted His son Jesus Christ.

"The Spoons"
A holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said, "Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like."
The Lord led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water.
The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful, but because the handle was longer than their arms they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. The Lord said "You have seen Hell."
They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man's mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking. The holy man said, "I don't understand."
"It is simple" said the Lord, "it requires but one skill. You see, they have learned to feed each other while the greedy think only of
themselves."
A friend is someone who reaches for your hand, but touches your heart.
People say true friends must always hold hands; but true friends don't need to hold hands because they know the other hand will always be there. Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle!

I think it's what people do in the name of religion that is bad. There has been a tremendous amount of war and death in the name of religion. I think it's probably been the top 3 (Christianity, Islam & Judaism) who have done the most damage. That's why I tend to be a more atheistic Buddhist pagan type.

Yes religion is important. We live off food, religion, working, and that's bascially it. What you think you die and stay six feet under. No! You go to a place were you are welcome. If you believe that God sent his son on the christ and his son Jesus died for your sins and that if you confess with your mouth that God is Lord then he will accept you in his place. The place you will go to is better then gold, jewels, and any expensive thing you can name you will feel like a king and you don't have to worry about harm. But if you do wrong by not doing your job as a christian then God will turn you down and you would go to a place that's hot and not a good place to be.

It is extreme cases or fanaticism that can be dangerous. I am of Baptist faith and I really feel Chrisianity is a good thing. It gives us hope, meaning to life, and values. There is also alot of wisdom written in the Holy Bible. Could you think of this world without Christianity? I think the world would be in utter chaos and anarchy. Our country was founded as a Christian Nation. Religion is mentioned in our 1st ammendment and "the endowed by our creator" is in the Declaration of Independence. I think religion is good but fanaticism can be a dangerous thing.

Religion isn`t the problem, predjudice is. Thats like saying that African Americans were the problem during the Civil War. They weren`t, slave owners were. I try my best to accept all religions without judging, and nobody`s perfect, I`ve lost my temper and said things I shouldn`t, but if everyone at least try`d then we wouldn`t have half the problems.

I would say most of the things you listed were not done because of religion but in spite of religion. That is to say, that religion was a great excuse to do them but not the underlying reason.
The real question you should ask is "Are people a good thing?" because it is the people that corrupt anything that has been established for the general good.

Religion is applying spiritual concepts in our daily lives. Spending
time with good people. Meditating to rest our mind and spirit.
Learning interpersonal relationships through Holy Writings. And
keeping the lines of communication to higher realms open through prayer.
