Let him pay, it's a way of showing you he's a gentleman. But take some money with you (emergency cash). And I know that if he is a real gentleman if you insist he will insist even more than you, and pay. Offer to pay the next time but he will still pay even then. It's a guy thing, if you let the girl pay the first date, he will feel dishonored, and that he owes you, it will be uncomfortable for him.

THIS IS A GUY TALKIN':
Being polite means respecting somebody else's indivuduality. If you as good friends, share some similarities, he should let you pay your own part. However, if you feel this appointment would become a date, and for what i read, you do not mind of that at all, let the guy show some manners and let him glow for a while. But, be consious that, in an open relation you may switch sides from time to time.
Nice helping you out.

Well offer to pay when you are out. If he insists on paying, offer to pay the next time you go out and see how he responds. If it is more than "catching up" he will jump at the opportunity at seeing you again... Good luck tomorrow! Hope this works out for you!

I take it he asked you out. I always, always, offer to pay. If he is a gentleman, he'll turn down your offer and treat you. If you have a great time and are interested in seeing him again, you can tell him that you would like to treat him next time, and then you can pay. Any good guy, friend or boyfriend will treat you, just make sure you treat him once in a while, and remember it is always nice to offer to pay so he doesn't think it is expected.

A man will insist that he'll want to pay. However, out of kindness offer to at least pay 1/2. If he insists then just let him pay, thank him and tell him next time its on you. :)

How you pay is really up to you. However, insisting on paying after he has said he would pay might offend him. I think it is possible he may feel more towards you than merely being your friend.
More than anything, don't split hairs over this issue. Just go out with him and have a great time!!!

A lot of men still have some old fashion values. To be on the safe side, bring along some cash and offer to pay your share. If he refuses to accept it, then just enjoy the fact that he is a gentlemen and have some fun catching up on those eight years!!

Bring enough money to cover your half and offer to pay it when the bill comes. If he insists on paying it, let him. That way he at least knows that you offered to pay your share and that you weren't expecting him to pick up the whole tab. He'll be impressed.

Take some emergency cash just in case...its nice that he offers though! When the check comes offer again to go dutch and if he refuses then you are good to go....if you happen to be hanging out at a bar later you can offer to pay for a round of drinks as a nice gesture....its what I do.
