It could be the acid content of the soda. If you can drink Slice or 7-up and it doesn't burn then it's nothing related to the CO2 exchange.

the carbonation,(stuff that makes it fizzy), drink juice instead, although the citric acid in orange juice can be harsh as well

you are probably allergic to the acid or carbonation. Try flavored water . taste gpod with no carbonation.
