I am going to keep looking, but the only non edible fruit I could find is the osage orange, and I am not sure if it is native to Mississippi. If you know what it is some sort of clue like color would help the search!

The "Passion Fruit" plant grows a lot of places but can not be eaten.

Pine cones are the fruit of the pine tree. I really wouldn't recommend eating them
