Her dentist told her he would have to go in and remove scaling from around the teeth. I was just curious on first. The teeth that have decayed over time will the bone grow back. He is also charging $300 for 4-quads (The entire mouth). I was also curious once she get's this done is this something she will have to do every 3 - 4 months. I was told this can be genetic issues as well. However, she is from china and she hasen't been to a dentist most of her life. She is 35yo now in the U.S.

If her dentist is not a periodontist, I'd very strongly suggest she see one. That figure sounds high but don't know where you live.

I am a dental hygienist. Depending on where you live, the cost of $300 for 4 quads rp&s is pretty cheap. I live on the West Coast, and we charge a lot more at our office.

The bone will probably not grow back on the areas that are affected. That is why periodontal disease is a serious condition. It is irreversible, once the damage is done. If left untreated, she could develop mobility of her teeth, or worse, loose her teeth.

Root planing is a procedure that will remove the calcus and other toxins around her teeth. She can be numb through the procedure. The goal is to provide a smooth, clean root surface on the tooth, so that the gums will be able to attach back to healthy surface.

She should get the root planing done, and then she should get a regular dental prophylaxis (cleaning) every 3 months thereafter. If she maintains her dental homecare well, she should not need root planing after all 4 quads are done. She will be on periodontal maintenance from then on.

Periodontal disease is caused mostly by poor homecare. Yes, genetics is a factor. Her dental hygienist should teach her proper brushing, and flossing. She might need more than that, such as a water pik to help get around the deeper areas around her teeth.

Attached is a link to the ADHA. You can read more about periodontal disease and root planing there. Also, attached is the Water Pik website. You do not have to buy this specific brand, I just wanted to show you what it can do for your wife.

I agree with the dental hygientist that answered on just about everything she said, but not on the part about bone loss being irriversible. This used to be the case, and in some patients it still is. There however is a new laser on the market called a PerioLase, only about 300 dentists in north america have one, because they are extremely expensive to purchase. We have one in our office. They are proven to regrow the bone in many patients. Now your wife would have to meet certain criteria, but you may want to check on this laser and see if it is available in your area. Perio disease is about 50% hereditery and 50% behavioral(poor homecare, not getting cleanings every 6 months). The scaling may have to be done again at a later date. Every patient is different. If the pocketing is not getting better, then she may have to have this done again. She will need to have a periodontal maintenance cleaning every 3-4 months from now on.

She got this by not taking care of her teeth -- the plaque has created pockets so deep between her gums and her teeth that she is in danger of the teeth loosening. If she hasn't ever seen a dentist, you really don't need a second opinion,--- she undoubtedly has the condition. As far as I am aware, she will have some discomfort, as the gums try to re-attach to the enamel of the teeth. She should then get on a regular routine of brushing twice daily, flossing , learning how to gently dry massage her teeth on a regular basis....(and her dentist should show her how to do this properly) -- and by learning to floss and wrap the floss around half of the tooth, by using an automatic tooth brush, by using a waterpik, and in general using good oral hygiene. And the work might best be done by a specialist, called a periodontist

each and every little thing that workplace stated turned right into one hundred% authentic. in case you particularly have 4 and 5 mm wallet, one in each and every of those treatment they are providing is how you could properly perfect the project. also the fee looks interior the ball park. So do not be skeptical of their treatment plan and their rationalization of your previous dentist (because in 40+ years of dentistry, I genuinely have seen some dentists be very lax about periodontal ailment and having been on a peer evaluation board, have seen dentists extra up on negligence prices for failing to good prognosis previous latest gum ailment.) So in case you do not imagine your wallet are 4-5mm, then have an examination via a periodontist or yet another depended on dentist for a 2d opinion. solid success.
