When is it proper to send a "Thank you" via US mail, and when is it alright to send an e-mail expressing thanks? Does it matter? Are there certain rules to follow?

I would think an email would be for close friends and for general stuff. A letter is always better.

It is ALWAYS proper to send a card via US mail.

I would not send an e-mail thank you...it's too informal.

As for when to send a thank you - the sooner, the better. The more quickly you send the note, the more sincere and appreciative you appear.

It is always more appropriate to send a thank you through the mail.

E-mails may be appropriate for certain situations in the corporate culture.

Rules? If someone does something nice for you...send a thank-you.

You won't go wrong by sending something through the mail. A hand-written card or letter is the best method. If your handwriting is unreadable, a typed letter with a hand signature is OK, providing you briefly explain why you're not writing the note by hand.

An email expression of thanks is fine for something you received via email.

It depends on how formal it is. If you are from a business, then it is proper send it via mail with your company logo and such. If it is a little more improper than it is considered more of a memo in an email. I took 2 business courses in college.

This is an interesting question. Hum, Upon thinking about it, If you have received a nice gift or invitation out to dinner, i would think it is most appropriate to send a Thank-you by mail. if you have received a greeting card, or e-greeting, it is perfectly OK to send a thank-you by email. But this is my opinion. Hope it has helped

Writing a personal letter and sending it through the good old U.S. Mail is best.

Thank yous always go through the mail. The reason for this is that thank you notes are handwritten. You can't do that with email.

If someone has done something for you that merits a thank you, the least you can do is write them a short note of appreciation. Email is too impersonal for that.

I think that if you're questioning whether you should even send a thank you note, then email would be OK. Otherwise you should send it through the mail.

If you want to keep getting presents, it's a safe bet to always send a snail mail thank you. It shows that you took the time to not only write it, but address it and stamp it.

I think US mail makes it more personal, because it shows that you took the extra time to write, address, stamp and mail something.
