I've noticed this cropping up a lot lately, especially if the people are trying to find a way to bring peace to the region. Peacemakers can't get very far without the accusations and denunciations of anti semitism being thrown at them, when all they want is for the killing and the murder of women and children to end. On BOTH sides.

All this flap serves but one purpose, as far as I can see: to distract the focus of the peace efforts away from stopping the warmongering and put them on the back pedal, having to defend their name against waves of denunciations. The end result is that a fog of political correctness and pro - war propaganda gets put in the way of any serious attempts to broker a real, true peace in the Middle East.

Mass hysteria is a very effective weapon by which any man can kill the efforts of the forces of reason to bring peace and end hate and war.

I don't like what /either/ side is doing - Israel or Hezbollah. Men should never gloat at the thought of waging war and killing innocent people, no matter if they think God is on their side or not - and no loving God could be on the side of butchers who delight in the murder of their fellow man, be they Christian, Muslim, atheist or Jew.

Me, I'm anti - war, anti - hate, anti - bigotry, in any form I see it.

But mostly I'm pro - peace.

As Pali Tripitaka put it, "For hate cannot be overcome by hate; only through love can hate be overturned. That is a law eternal."

But what would he know about it? He was a Buddhist ...

because while there should be a distinction between being against a political entity and being against a religion, many people who speak out against israel's political policies often make the connection to the "jews" or have their political opposition masking a deeper hatred. but strictly speaking, one should not confuse the two. In israel, most everyone is against the government in some way without being anti-semitic. But when you say "anti-israel" what exactly do you mean? against the existence of the country or opposed to the decisions made by the parlaiment...

Because people mix religion and nationality. Anti Islam is the same as saying anti arab in some peoples mind. There are Jews Christians and Muslims living and working in Israel. In fact there were more Christians living in Israel than Jews up untill about 1948.

Anti-Israel? I guess because that would define you as anti-Semitic. Wouldn't anyone who paints a whole country with the same brush be open to criticism themselves?

Anti-semitis means more than anti Israel - it cover quite a few non-Jewish tribes as well. I think the people who use this term just like it because they think it makes them sound educated and well-informed. It's like the use of the term "homophobia" - a stricly medical term, used everyday for people who have a social, political, or religious objection to homosexuality.

Several centuries ago anti-semitism was coined. why do you want to change that now? are you prepared for a written discertation of 3000 words and oral arguments to last several years just to talk about the written text? Where will you stand and argue that you feel free from gunfire to shut you up?

I have nothing against Jews and all Jews I ever knew were very nice people. But we have this story in our country :

A guy is in a train. Later a Jew gets in and enters his compartment. The journey is a long one. The guy starts eating his snack and the Jew asks him if he could have a half of it. The guy says that he could. Then the night draws on. The guy starts eating his supper. The Jew wants half of it and the guy agrees. Then, as the guy is putting his pajamas on, the Jew says that he forgot his pajamas and asks if he could have the guy's pajamas. The guys agrees. But when the guy is going to brush his teeth and the Jew wants his toothbrush, the guy snaps : "aren't you a bit cheeky?" and the Jew retorts : "aren't you anti Semitic?"

From Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary (http://www.m-w.com):

an·ti-Sem·i·tism : hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group

Is·ra·el : the Jewish people (i.e., not just the country, but the people as well).

Therefore, if you are anti-Israel you are by definition anti-semitic.

I think it's a great shame when people can't understand that one can be pro-judaism ( a religion & a culture ) and also be against certain policies of Isreal (a political nation).

There are policies of the US that I don't agree with. That doesn't make me anti-american.
