My friend was called about a contest she did actually enter but is concerned that the whole thing was a scam. I got her to *69 it and she got that number. I can't find any specific thing on any reverse phone books on the internet, just that it's from Toronto. Any help? Heard of this particular one before?

The crazy thing is she actually entered a contest and it's a real company. However I believe the whole company is a scam. It's crazy that the scammers would actually create a contest and get tons of people to write in entry forms especially when it was NOWHERE near Toronto!

647 is an Ontario area code, usually for cell phones. It sounds to me just a prank call, or a conman using a cell phone.

Are you in Ontario, or..?

Best bet maybe contact the Toronto Police or Ontario Provincial Police, or maybe even the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) to see if they've heard anything on it.

The registered service provider is Call-Net Communications**.

Sounds like a scam, she well know it's a scam for sure if they ask for any money.

Most of the won a trip scams require you to join a travel club. Then you will get the free trip that is worth nothing. I keep getting one for a cruise to Bermuda. Call them and there is a service charge that covers the cost of the motel and ferryboat trip that you won.

These days, you can easily find out more about a company using the Internet in a few minutes. From a company's website, you can get details about its ownership, how old the company really is and feedback from the company's customers.

You can find more detailed information about a company at http://tinyurl.com/gtb89

It's a scam. They tell you that you won and try to sell you something. Tell your friend to ignore it. She'll be better off.
