They told me to take 40mg predinsone once a day, for 5 days, to clear up the inflamation in my ears, and face area. Then told me to take Nacacort too. My question is on the Prednisone, just taking it 5 days, i should not have to taper off..?? And on the Nasacort when should i start seeing some effect on this medication!!>? And on the Prednisone also when will i feel some clearing up in my ears.. ??

On the Prednsone, no, you can just stop when your dose is out. And yes, it should clear your ears.

Give the Nasocort about two full weeks to have the full effect.

First of all, I'm not a pharmacist. So, the answers that I give are based on personal experience, a lot of reading and working with people who have allergies and injuries.
I would follow the Drs orders on the prednisone. I don't think the dosage and time period would require a taper off period. You should feel some relief from both the Prednisone and the Nasacort with the first two days.
If I were in your position, I would try to find out what the allergy is from. Many times food allergies express themselves through the ears, eyes, nose, throat, lungs, skin, bowel habits, fatigue and even through our moods. It may not be food either, you could be suffering from an environmental allergy. It is important to find the cause and then take steps to keep clear of the allergen. The drugs that you are taking are really not good for your long term health. They will end up causing just as much trouble as the allergy in the end.
I know that was more than you wanted to know. Sorry for the soap box lecture. It's important though.
Good Luck!

You MUST, MUST, MUST taper off Prednisone. It virtually shuts down your adrenal glands, and tapering off allows the glands to begin working again. You cannot just stop. Once that's thru, my suggetion would to be get plain old Sudafed. If the Rx stuff hasn't worked for you so far, it probably won't. Sudafed is still the best thing on the market for opening up those drainage passages and getting rid of stuffy symptoms. Don't take it past 6pm though as it will keep you up and wired. If itchy eyes and runny nose are a problem, Claritin during the day is a good idea and a Benadryl at night will dry you up and help you sleep!

When I take the 40 mg. for five days I have terrible muscle cramps, but every doctor has had a strong rationale for giving it that way. Nasacort, if it will help, should do so within 3 days. 24 -48 hours seems to be the norm for Prednisone. Hope you feel better soon.

Predisone is a serious steroid. 5 days is not long enough to force you to taper down. I had to take 5 days after sinus surgery so it must be ok.

I would think that in 5 days you should notice some relief or call your doctor back. Nasacort is a topical steroid and helps keep the nose tissues from swelling up.

Did you have skin tests?

If you're on Prednisone for that short amount of time you do not need to wean off of it. My mother was on it for over 20 years for Colitis and had to be weaned off. Prednisone should take effect in about 2 days. You really should call you PMD just to make sure. Take care!

I don't care for prednisone very much. It's a steroid that can boost your immunity.

you should start feeling better in a week or so, but it may take a month to fully have the meds built up in your system
