Hey! Another entry in the "most ignorant question" sweepstakes!

Go back to Afghanistan, Mr. Taliban traitor.

Sadly, there are people who sincerely believe that to be an American one must believe in a god.

Now, the Founding Fathers (WHATEVER their personal religious beliefs...) were very careful to make it clear that's not the case. If you've ever really looked at the U.S.Constitution you'd know that there are exactly two references to religion. One prohibits religious tests for public office. The other is in the First Amendment, and prohibits laws concerning the establishment of a religion. There are exactly no references to "God", "Jesus", "the Creator", or "Christianity". If the Founding Fathers in their private papers expressed religious beliefs that only makes it more clear that when they excluded those beliefs from the Constitution, they meant to ensure that we have no official religion.

I am an atheist, and I am a fierce American patriot. Because I am an American patriot, I am appalled that the Congress followed the Soviet Union's lead in the last century in pushing to control the religious lives of the citizens by putting religious slogans on money and into the Pledge of Allegiance. America is better than that - we should aspire to be more than just another country, and those acts were steps backwards, bordering on treason.

Those today who believe that non-religious persons can't be American citizens are demonstrating that while they may love the flag and other symbols of our nation, they simply don't like America. What is wrong with them is simply that they don't have nearly enough respect for the United States.

If you want "one nation, under God", move to Saudi Arabia. My nation is better than your religion.

There's a thing called the 1st Amendment, and perhaps you should read it some time.

Since you obviously hate the Constitution (Which is a statement of what the US stands for), then I wonder whether YOU can really be an american citizen.

PS: Cuba is not an atheist nation, and you would know that if you had an ounce of education.

I am an atheist and I do celebrate Christmas. The Constitution of the United States allows citizens to worship as we please, it is one of the wonderful rights of this country. A dictatorship such as Cuba does not allow freedom of religion; communist mainland China does not allow religions other than the state mandated religion; democratic France disallows expression of religion in public; democratic England has a state religion but people are allowed to practice as they wish. I'm glad I'm here in the US.

Let's see, you're suggesting all atheists be moved to a different country.....is that true American democracy or does it have the stench of Adolf Hitler's world view???? I don't know what America you live in but I live in a free democracy. Maybe the one you live in preaches "blind allegiance". I'll keep my free thinking, atheistic self right here thank you!!

You obviously don't believe in the Constitution. Perhaps someone who is not prepared to uphold the laws of the United States should not be allowed to be a US citizen.

I was born here and I have every right to my citizenship. And who are you to tell me I can't celebrate Christmas? You really consider that commercialized holiday a christian celebration?

To begin with, Cubans are American. American means from the American continent, from Canada to Argentina.

And besides, the USA would be better if it were more tolerant to atheists.

I'm English, so really I feel above this, but last time I checked, America was founded on the freedom of the individual (mostly freedom to shop, get fat and shoot Mexicans), which is a noble idea, and your religious fascism shouldn't be allowed.

Since citizinship is generally based upon birthplace, then the simple answer to your first question is: yes. And in as much, the obvious answer to your second question is: Not unless they were born there.
