Chewing seems to work ... my grandma said chew a piece of parsley.

Also cut at waist level (not on the worktop) and make sure that the air isn't rising towards your eyes.

Be sure the onion is cold while cutting. You can also try a small electric fan on your counter top to blow the fumes away from you, but cutting a cold onion may be more practical.

Some say cutting an onion under running water will help -- and it will, if you're cutting the onion into large pieces. However, if you're chopping the onion into small pieces, running water may become your enemy.

Here's a tip that works wonders! Buy a frozen bag of chopped onions and store them in a freezer-safe resealable bag. You won't have to worry about thawing them prior to cooking, as the small size of the chopped pieces will thaw quickly on their own in any recipe you're cooking. Good luck!

Don't cut onions, make some one else do it! LOL i'm kidding. A friend once told me run cold water out of the sink and at the same time get a mouthful of water and hold it in your mouth while cutting the onion. And believe it or not it kinda woked for me. The crazy things we do! LOL

Hi have a bowl of cold water ready so as you cut them you can place the onion in the water, also dont cut the bottom of the onion first as this is the stronger part that makes your eyes water.

I think that the crying is a genetic thing, I never have a problem cutting onions and I put them in everything. It also may have to do with how sharp the onions are. Try keeping them cold before you cut them, it may help a bit.

if you have a gas stove, turn it on and cut the onion near it. the oxygen created by the flame will help lessen the severity of the onion.
