It was not just the Canadians who liberated Holland! The army of Free Pland played in major role in the liberation of the south of the country. There is still a large military cemetery of Polish WWII veterans in the city of Breda.

The northern part of Holland wasn't liberated until after the winter of 1944/1945 and as a result many people were starving in the big cities in the west (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, etc.). This was the so called "Hongerwinter".

Allied forces continued to push the Germans back. They were mainly Canadians soldiers but they also came from the UK, Australia, the US and Poland.

In May 1945 the Germans officially surrendered but sporadic fighting continued in the Northern fringes of the country. Some of the islands and coastal towns in the north weren't liberated until early June 1945.
