It's pretty hard to sum up a religion so I would suggest to start with some reading. The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying is a great place to start. It is extremely difficult to live a purist Tibetan Buddhist lifestyle without giving up all your worldly possessions and moving to a monastery. However this particular book discusses ways to incorporate the beliefs into everyday life.

You have to go there. Air fare is 3000.00.
If they like you, you can stay.
Bring warm clothes.
There is a bunch of chanting, and cleaning and menial tasks.
You take a bunch of crap from the older monks.
You listen to some far out sayings, that is after you lean the language.
Stuff like, the air moves when the wind blows.
You have to sleep when you are tired.
You know, good stuff.
