Niether. They're in two different categories.

Whey protein is a one of many varieties of protein sources that consists of 18 out of 20 essential amino acids. Creatine only one complex amino acid composed of three major ones: glycine, arginine, and methionine (this formula does vary).

Both protein and creatine will be supplied to you adequeately if you are eating enough foods rich in them. Almost every type of food has some type of proteins, but it is found mostly in meat, fish, and dairy. Creatine is also a naturally occuring substance that is found mostly in red meats and fish.

Because most creatine is destroyed when cooking, you are only consuming a very little amount. Not to mention, your body often tends to reject creatine, leaving very little of it actually being absorebed. because of this, they have created supplementation.

It is also more inefficient to rely on your diet for increased protein, which is also why there is a supplement for that.

As long as you are eating a well balanced diet, you won't need either one, but most people fail to do so. I would reccomend starting off with protein if you are new to body building. Save creatine for when your workouts are more advanced and you are looking for more serious results in muscle mass.

Not to mention, you should definately research creatine because your question makes it sound like you need to know alot more about what your putting in your body, as well what you expect out of it.

creatine is not a protein. it's a substance found in the body that aids in anaerobic activity like heavy weightlifting. the supplement adds to the reserve already in the body and enhances muscle performance. there are some finer details, but don't worry about it. just know that it's not a protein like whey.

Creatine is a natural substance produced by the body when exercising, but protein is also good when used after exercise, so the answer is both.
