therefore any benefit is due to a placebo effect
Given that the placebo effect requires belief in the cure
Given that atheists don't believe in exorcism.

I would have to logically conclude, NO.

All exorcisms are performed on atheist. A Christian cannot be possessed by a devil. A Christian can be attacked from without by a devil, but his soul can never be possessed by a devil. The blood of Jesus is a guarantee against possession.

athiests don't beleive in god.

there would never be an exorcism performed on an athiest in the first place.
