I am a full time college student, work part time 3rd shift and have 2 children. When and what should I eat to keep up the energy and metabolism? I am on the go and don't eat much when I am at home on the computer or doing homework. When I worked 40hrs dayshift I ate more consistent, healthy meals.

Great foods on the go are:

Small handfuls of heart healthy nuts (almonds, walnuts)
Trail mix with 1/2 cup dry whole wheat cereal, raisins, and nuts
Fresh fruit (apples and bananas)
High fiber and protein, low fat granola bars (Try Kashi bars)

Take a cooler along and bring:

Whole wheat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
Whole wheat sandwiches with low fat turkey, hummus, and spinach
Baby carrots with hummus
Fat free yogurt

These snacks and healthful and will help you avoid sugar crashes and low energy dips.

It's really important that, despite your schedule, you don't skip meals or decrease your calorie intake. I have a similar challenge, since I'm a classroom teacher. I usually have to work through my lunch break, so from 7 AM to 4 PM I can barely eat.

I would suggest keeping healthy snacks around, like fresh fruit and nuts. Almonds, walnuts, pecans and macadamia nuts are great energy food. Also, keep the fridge stocked with those little 8 oz packages of lowfat cottage cheese. They make a great snack and they're full of protein.
