If this has persisted for more than 3 days, then you need to get a 2nd opinion from a different doctor. Go to a nearby walk in clinic. Drink LOTS of water and only nibble on basic foods like plain toast or a banana.
I'm LDS too and herbal tea is ok

yeah, definately sounds like the flu. :( Hmm... Well, I always grew up on homeopathic remedies, so I'm not really sure what your style is regarding that. If you have the ability to go see a doc, then I'd suggest that. If you don't, then I'd suggest taking some echinacea (you can easily get it in capsules or tea... I'd suggest tea). Golden Seal root wouldn't hurt either. Both are immunity boosters. As far as food, take it easy and drink some broth. Chicken noodle soup is always a good one. Make sure you drink a lot of Gatorade/Vitamin water to keep your electrolytes in balance. Drink lots and lots of water. :) Hope this helps! :)

(herbal tea like echinacea has no caffeine. You're thinking of black or green tea.)

Drink herbal tea. Just because you're mormon doesn't mean you can't drink herbal tea.
