I scored an 82 on the ASVAB when I took it this year, and I am a sophmore in high school. The only thing I didnt qualify to become in the Navy is a Navy SEAL and Nuclear Engineer. I could do anything I wanted in the Air Force and Army I think though. I scored the highest out of about 30 people in my school who took it, except for one person who got a 90 i think. Alot of people scored very low on this test, and I know someone who got a 19.
Also, the passing score varies for each branch of serive. For the Army is may be a 36, but for the Air Force it may be a 40 or so.
The reason people do bad on this test is because its not a normal test. It tests you on everyday situations, not just academics. Some people arent ready for that kind of test.
EDIT- RayRay, the ASVAB is a military test that you have to take if you plan on enlisting into the military. It isnt a public school test, its designed to test your basic knowledge of everything.
Also, the guy below me who says you have to be stupid to join the military is stupid himself. The brave men and women who join our military to defend YOUR freedom and your right to democracy and risk their lives everyday do NOT deserve to be called stupid. Grow up. People like you disgust me.

I think kids are these days spend too much time on the internet and playing video games. When I took the test as a sophmore in high school...I made a 67. But when I took the test again the following year I made an 86.
The basis for me getting a higher score was actually going out into the real world and learning stuff and having to make my own choices.
Most people just let the internet and video games run their life. I love video games, but I don't let it take my life. Internet is a hobby for me and it helps me communicate with friends and family since I am overseas.
It's not just the school system...its society.

my husband is currently a recruiter for the Army and it is sad that most kids who have a high school diploma can't pass the test I have heard of people scoring as low as an 11. But the kids that have their G.E.D. pass it with flying colors, and pot heads always pass just fail the drug test. So I guess the real question is why are kids who graduate dumber than the drop outs?

Sad to say it, but we have have a lot of stupid people out there. Despite billions spent on education, we still have people on Yahoo! Answers who can not even form a sentence. The ASVAB is test that any High school student should be able to pass with ease. If not? They just wasted 4 years of schooling........

I don't know the answer to that but evidently I did on my ASVAB. I qualified for any job in the military, as did many of my fellow students in High School. That was 1990 though, and I think education has taken a major hit since parents no longer can force their children to do anything.

Becasue we lower the standard in publi schools to let the stupid people feel not so stupid.
Yes, James I know its for the military as I am Senior Cheif in US Navy. But public schools are lowering the standard for our children making them stupid or okay with just being okay!
