Coke was the first back in the 1800's and it actually had Cocaine in it until it was finally outlawed and the word "Coke" comes from the word coca from the coca leaf from which cocaine is made. Coke and Coca-Cola has since kept the same recipe.Pepsi came much later on to become a big competitor. Pepsi's big deal was that it had the ingredient called pepsin in it which is a natural aid to digestion.

I'm sure it was coke. Coke and pepsi were classified as "canned drinks". The first canned drinks and foods was in 1810. canned foods came first and then canned drinks. Coke was a syrup that was supposed to be a medicine but then fizzy water was added to it so it became a soft drink. I if think the creator of coke was still alive today, I think he would be very rich!
