The Amish, (and the related Mennonites) practice a very basic fundamental form of Christianity.

The word, "fundamental," has taken on an entirely innapropriate definition, of late. Many equate fundamentalism with extremist. The Amish simply choose to live a life of worship, community, work and simplicity. Not all the Amish practice in the exact same way. Each Amish community makes its own rules, althought the basic tenets are the same.

Many people mistakenly assume that they reject all modern technology as sinful. What they reject is sloth, laziness, so that modern tools and technology used strictly for convenience is frowned upon. If there is a need to travel far, they will ride a bus, train, or even an airplane. Believe me, if an Amish person needs an appendectomy, he will see a modern doctor!

Some communites even use electicity that they produce themselves and store in batteries, but they will not hook up to the grid.

When I went to visit Lancaster, Pennsylvania, I heard a story of a man who visited his Amish neighbor. They had known each other's families for many years. This man decided to bring his friends a bag of tortilla chips and a jar of mild salsa. The Amish family politely sampled it, but all decided that the salsa was too spicy. They very much enjoyed the tortilla chips.

You see, they did not dismiss the modern, packaged food, but the salsa was too stimulating for their simple tastes.

Amish is a form of Christianity. They are very strict about family values and they are careful not to let anything into their lives that may disrupt those values.

For example, they don't watch TV, not because they hate electricity, but because it takes away from family bonding time and instills harmful values.

Many Amish have a period durring their teen years where they're sent into the world to decide what they want for the rest of their lives. Most of them come back to the family but some choose to leave.

Uh...they are Amish. It's a Christian sect. Why are you asking about Hasidic Jews?

Hasidic Jews are Jewish, and therefore not Christian.

The Amish are a type of Mennonite. (That's like saying Baptist or Presbyterian) Therefore, they are Christian.

I know it gets confusting because of the similarities in appearance.

As far as differences/similarities in doctrine, they are too many to list here. Suffice it to say that the two beliefs are not alike at all.
