Er...England goes all the way north to the Scottish border...where the UK becomes Scotland and stops being England...does this mean Scotland is the North?

Maybe you mean where does the South of England stop and the North of England begin...In my opinion somewhere just north of Derby.

Learn to read a map. England stops where Scotland begins. The North of England is perhaps on average not as financially affluent as the South, but people in the North are friendlier, and it's just a nicer place to be. Not to mention having the finest motorcycling roads in England.

A bit of a vague question - so it gets a vague answer.
The counties of Durham, Northumberland, Lancashire, North Yorkshire and Cleveland would to me comprise the "North" - naturally - others would disagree. If we go back to the 1973 county re-organizations I would guess anything North of a squiggly line from the Tees to the Mersey

England stops and the North ends at Watford gap. It's grim down south.

i wasn't aware 'england' stopped until the scottish border. it drives me crazy when people say 'the north' in relation to the top of england, scotland is in the north! especially the incompetent weathermen/women who don't seem to realise that the BBC is in fact for all of the uk, hence the 'british' in the title, it doesn't just cater for england!
