first of all you could try the brushing the dogs teeth with a tooth brush, or pay and have the groomer brush them, or you could try the new pedigree denta stix. theres a couple of dog food companies that make snacks like these, which cleans your dogs mouth.

tip: if you plan on brushing your dogs teeth yourself, try putting a bit of peanut butter on the tooth brush.........Good Luck!!!!!!!

She is probably not chewing anything because it hurts. Did your vet simply say to brush at home and not tell you the dog needs a dental? Time to find another vet. Infected teeth and gums can cause lots of serious health problems and if the dog is already in pain from the infections in the teeth and gums no amount of brushing at home will clear it up. She probably already has teeth that need removal and that can be serious. If you don't want to change vets at least have this one do a full dental and get the teeth taken care of immediately. I can't believe what some of you say on here that your vets tell you. Wonder where the heck they are getting their diplomas.

Depending on the dog's age, you may be able to train it to allow you to brush its teeth (with dog-safe toothpaste only). There are bushes that fit on the tip of your finger, so you can brush your dog's teeh and massage his gums at the same time. Giving the dog hard foods (like kibble, hard biscuits, raw veggies, and rawhide chews) will also help cut down on the amount of plaque that builds up on the teeth. Have the dog checked once a year by a licensed veterinarian, and let the vet decide when the dog will need a "teeth scraping" to remove any build up.

Brush the dog's teeth regularly. You can also give it raw hide and other chew toys as well as dry food - these helps control plaque. Also, consider bringing the dog to the vet once or twice a year for a good cleaning.

Brushing daily with a pet toothpaste is the best option. Never use human dental products on your dog! Chews are good, but should only be given when the dog can be supervised. Many vets now carry a line of dental care products...the brand I use has toothpaste, rinse, and chews all designed to prevent plaque. Ask your vet for options. You can buy a finger brush and special toothpaste for dogs. Their teeth should be brushed once every week or every 2 weeks. It's best to do it when you give them a bath, because it will get all over the fur around their mouth, and it's sticky!

Brush their teeth using dog toothpaste, don't feed canned or semi moist food, give them rawhides or Denta Bones to chew on, get a used scaler from your dentist and you can gently scale their teeth (a bit at a time to get the dog used to it).

You can buy dog toothpaste and a toothbrush and brush your dog's teeth just like you would brush your own. You can also buy Dentabones and they help to clean your dogs teeth.
