To me, this is against the wish of God and this practice should go away, Priests and Nuns should be allowed to get married.
I want some serious answer folks.

It is unnatural. I think you have to be some kind of abnormal to become a priest or nun. However, I do hear that more goes on in there than is admitted.

Sex is natural and enjoyable. It is unfortunate that religions make people so weirded out by it. The idea that if you have less experiences in life you are somehow living life better is just retarded.

If some people go without it, then obviously it is not a basic necessity of life for all people.

How do they manage? Their hearts and minds are in a different place. They are not so much concerned with the demands of the flesh but with the rewards of the spirit.

Whether or not celibacy is against the wish of God is not for you or me to decide. Neither you nor I can definitively tell others what God's wishes are. God reveals his wishes to individuals who seek his will...and his wishes for me are different from his wishes for you. It is just a bad idea to go around saying that something is against the wish of God when it is in fact just your personal opinion.

What does it matter to you if priests and nuns are "allowed" to get married? Why is this a problem for you? If priests and nuns are happy not to marry, why does their choice trouble you?

And, what kind of serious answer are you looking for?

A priest and a nun dedicate their lives to the service of God and carrying the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. This is what they care about, and this is what they do. No one is forcing them to do it, and no one is forcing them into celibacy. They chose to answer God's call, and they knew the terms of the "agreement" beforehand. No one has imposed anything on them.

So whatever you or I think about it, it doesn't matter. They are free to leave the clergy if they so desire. Because many stay, it clearly indicates that they are content to remain celibate and unmarried.

Having your religous leaders not involved in relationships or having to deal with the comings and goings of life and being devoted to god is important for some religons. This can give the priest or a nun a perspective that other people might not have. Personally I think it is a bad idea, and it ends up with to many priests and nuns who have to leave the church because they cannot live without sex. I understand the religous resons I just don't think it works.

Wow ... a few problems here.

First, we will not die if we never have sex. So, classifying it as a "basic necessity of life" is going a bit too far.

Second, if celibacy is "against the wish of God," then how do you explain the fact that Jesus was celibate?

How do you explain the fact that St. Paul -- who wrote much of the New Testament -- was also celibate?

How do you explain Jesus teaching us that those who can accept a lifestyle of forsaking marriage for God should do so?

Contrary to common belief, the Catholic Church does not forbid anyone to get married.

True, priests and nuns promise to not marry -- but no one is ever forced to become a priest or nun.

Those who do become priests or nuns -- and who take on the celibate life that those vocations call for -- do so willingly. Celibacy is forced on no one.

Well, it's an assumption that it's a necessity- that's very much open to debate. Many religious orders include people that lead celibate lifestyles- this has been around for thousands of years. Not just catholic priests and nuns, but Buddhist monks etc.

Now as to whether it's god's wish, or healthy, or fun- that's another discussion entirely. I'd love to be wealthy, but that doesn't make it a necessity.

Not really sure about this one. It says in the Quran that men and women are allowed to marry and mate. Plus if everyone was a nun or priests how would we procreate?

Priests end up either homosexuals, paedophiles, or (like Cardinal Richelieu of old, don't have children but many "niece and nieces"), or do it on the side in whatever ways. Nuns have their own fun, sometimes of the Lesbian kind. Nobody is perfect, but the Church (as an institution) is terribly hypocrite

The Scripture says (and I'm loosely translating) that it's good for a man to not touch a woman. BUT it also says, "For if they cannot contain (their sexual desires) let them marry. For it is better to marry than to BURN". Why Catholicism allows this to go on, I presume is because of the "good for a man not to touch a woman" part, therefore they take an oath of celibacy as a symbol of their purity. But I think there are better ways that would still glorify God through marriage, yet no one in or out of the clergy seems to care much anymore. Oh well......

Sex isn't a basic necessity of life. It is meant to be for reproduction, and to bring a man and woman closer to each other. But I do think as you that those religions who believe in celibacy for church workers, should be allowed to marry and have a family. Adam and Eve were told to multiply and replenish the earth. They were told to have children, so why should others not be given the same opportunity?

well 1st thing, sex and affairs are not the only thing in life. life means much more, caring for each other. sex is just not pleasure but it fills up the void in a persons' life. both partners try completeing each other. and that is the main thing.

secondly when preists and nuns have decided to spend the rest of their lives in God's path, they should always stand up for what they beleive.

when someone knows that they will not be able to resist temptation then they shouldnt opt preisthood in first place.

but at the end of the day , it is their life and their choices and we have no right to question them.
