Potty train him...Your puppy is very likely to become ill staying outside, especially if he isn't vaccinated. He also won't learn to be a good dog, unless you spend most of your time outside with him.

It depends on the age of your puppy, as to how many times per day it is fed..but, the best way to set a puppy up for success is to feed on a strict schedule. for an 8-12 week old, this should be 4 times per day...Put the food down, and pick it up in 15-20 minutes..5 minutes after pup has quit eating, take him outside, and stay with him until he poops..When he poops, use the same word every-time....Praise him cheerfully...good boy! go poo-poo! (or whatever you are comfortable with saying)
Older than 12 weeks, do the same for 3 feeding per day..Be consistent, and don't ever take it for granted, but continue the praising each time...NEVER scold for indoor mistakes..

If you see him restless or whiny at other times, he likely needs to pee...again, don't scold him if you miss the signals, but scoop him up cheerfully and take him out..even if he is through..

Many owners use a bell hanging long from the door..(after he has the general idea)..Jingle it each time you take him out, and soon he will jingle it when he needs let out.

Oddball needs some potty training, but because he's still very young, he will have accidents. Puppies usually don't have any conscious control of their bowels or bladder until they're about 4 months old.Training your pup now, however, will help him learn more quickly. Ask Dad if you can bring the dog in under the condition that you will WATCH the pups and make sure he goes "outside potty" only. Here's how you can do that: Puppies will normally have to go potty about 10 minutes after they eat and right after they wake up from a night's or nap's sleep. So take Oddball outside after every meal, after every nap, and when he first gets up in the morning. Praise him whenever he goes potty outside like he should. During other times, puppies will show their need to go potty by walking in small circles with their nose to the ground and squatting. Whenever you see this behavior ask Oddball, "Do you need to go outside potty?", and then take him outside. As soon as he goes potty, praise him. If you're consistent with this, you'll have a house-trained puppy in no time.

What your dad is doing is cruel. Your puppy will never become housebroken if he's not trained. He cannot fend for himself and needs to be around his family right now. Did you and your dad discuss this at all before getting him? Puppies go in the house until their housebroken....it's what they do. If that's not acceptable to your dad, then maybe you need to find him a loving home that will train him. For the meantime, get a crate and crate train him, buy books on dog care and training, and talk to your vet for tips. Also, think about getting him into puppy class...it really helps them in the long run. It really sounds like you and your dad need to do a lot of talking about this yet and you probably shouldn't have got a puppy...they're a lot of work and can be really messy. Do LOTS of research on care, feeding, etc. and get him his checkups if you want to give this puppy the life it deserves. Good Luck.

Sounds like dad was talked into getting puppy cause kids wanted it to me.

There is nothing you can do to change an adults mind, not if you are a kid.

Dad needs a kick up the butt, not only is he irresponsible letting you kids get a puppy that he is definately not concerned about, but he is willing to let you get your hearts broken if the puppy gets injured and let the puppy be injured.

To make it so difficult for you to have to come online and ask advice at your age just goes to show how caring this man is.
I would never let my kids feel this way. All a part of being responsible adults, an example for our children.

The mean dogs do want to eat him-that would certainly shut his whining off! oddball needs you to be a friend and clean up after it ! when you are out/ gone shopping /etc oddball needs a cage in your room to reduce his mess and find favor with other family members. A cage will cost $49.99+tax which is cheaper than professional carpet cleaning 4 times a month. You can put an old towel, rug,or shoes in the cage for oddbal to sleep on,but more importantly get a large (1 litre)clip-on bottle for water;see Vet supply. Buy a heavy(i.e., ceramic ,stone) bowl to put food in or else more mess. Puppy chow,no milk, half-cup portion morning and evening for one month and then increase quarter-cup per month. any more and he'll get FAT! lol Rope teething toy

Tell him all the bad things that can happen to odball if he stays outside, say that he will get sick from the weather, he might get harmed by other people or other dogs, or he might run away. If he doesnt want your dog to go potty in the house convince him that youll train your dog and clean up all of his mess.

My parents didnt want my dog inside either when I first got her. Now shes always indoors and my parents LOVE her. a daushund like that is WAYYYY to little to be outside, thats downright WRONG and its WRONG for your parents to keep something like that out there....Id do what I did and keep the puppy in your room & give it alot of attention and buy some peepee pads and train her/him to go potty on the pad, it dosent take but a few weeks and you can clean up any stains! then they will have no excuse. show your parents how cute and funny he/she is and they will grow to love odball too and not want him/her outside!

all these answers are good but im a dad and i've been thru this with my kids. and the best answer is to explain to your dad that you will clean up after your pet and feed and water him and do chores so to pay for the food. and if this does not work , climb up in his favorite chair and give him a big hug and tell him how much you love him and care for him . tell him how much you love your dog and start crying not real hard just gently. and if this doesnt work tell him that you dont want to choose between him and the dog because he might loose.

I think you really should keep your puppy inside for the sake of its safety. Tell your dad that it's important for the puppy right now at least, and then he can stay outside when he gets older...

give the dog to someone else because apparently the dog is ot going to have a happy and safe future! little dogs like that do not belong outside, if you take him in and out on a regular basis you will find that he will get house broken easier, or like i said give him to a safer home!
