One day an atheist was walking through the woods, admiring nature, the tall trees and the warm sun. Then all of a sudden a bear jumped out and started to charge him intending to eat him. At the last second the atheist found himself calling out for God. At that moment everything stopped and God revealed himself. God asked the atheist "Why should i who help you, someone who has seen my majesty in my creations of nature and still will deny me and attempt to get other to do the same, do you now wish to be a follower and be saved?" After thinking for a second the atheist said " I don’t want to be hypocritical and convert now but could you at least make the bear Christian?" At that moment everything returned and the bear dropped to his knees before the atheist. The bear put his paws together and solemnly said "Thank you God for this food I am about to eat!"

Not trying to offend anyone, but it is interesting how many people were offended. I think some childish joke about a bear is far less offensive to some of the anti-god stuff i have seen, but i want to make clear i am not trying to make a point with this post just putting it out there. I really don't mind people not beliving in God and would never try to say they were wrong. I belive that "Everything is permitted and nothing is True" you must seek your own truth. I agree it is a lame joke but kinda funny.

Doesn't make sense, sorry. Being chased by a bear would be bad enough; being chased by a Christian bear grunting bible verses at you would be un-bear-able.

It's an oldie. I think I first heard it told by an atheist, and I thought it was pretty cute. Of course, it doesn't really make sense. No actual atheist would "call out" to an imaginary being to rescue him, and certainly no atheist who knows anything about the history of Christianity would ever ask God to turn a bear into a Christian and expect that to bring him any advantage.

Nope. The idea that an atheist would think that Christianity would automatically make someone "good" is kind of silly. If anything, the atheist would make the bear a Humanist. The whole joke doesn't really make sense. Besides, it's old.

It's not realistic. I've never been about to be eaten by a bear, but I've been in difficult situations, and I've never even thought of going to God for help. That's a "Christian" atheist, in the sense that it's an atheist that goes for an alleged superior force, only when they need it.

Sligtly funny, but no Athiest I know would call out to god when being chased by a bear. A lot of my Athiest buddies are real outdoorsy types, so they know what to do when there is a bear around (make lots of noice, wave your arms in the air to look bigger than the bear, if that dosn't work, play dead).

I'm an agnostic, and people who don't believe in god have had to learn not to be offended by stuff. So it's not offensive, but honestly, it's not all that funny.
Interestingly, I first heard that joke told by a Jewish girl where the bear was Jewish.

It was funny, although Lotus Phoenix had an edginess that I find just a bit funnier.
(Okay, I am laughing hers was very funny)
I also think it is funny that the bear prays right before he eats a live human. Christians are funny!

In a Freudian sense it certainly reveals something about the joke-teller, doesn't it?

If there really were a god, it'd be an effective put-down of atheism. In light of god's nonexistence, it reflects poorly on the believer.

If I were a believer, I'd think it was pretty funny, though.

Nope, you lost me at the calling out for god bit. I'll admit I've used the expression, but I've never expected help. Some words have just entered the vernacular. Besides, it takes a special kind of nerd to scream "random flucutations of the space-time continuum" while running for one's life. In the first place, one tends to be short on breath.

It isn't really a joke, just a comical story. What was the purpose of asking this as a question? Surely you didn't post it just to offend people, did you?
