My friend is still living with her ex, who has emptied her checking account over the last week. Her ex said she would deposit the next check into her acount, but then stopped it today. She has asked ex to move out, but it doesn't look like she's willing to. What can I suggest for her to do, that will help?

First, contact the bank and get the ex off the checking account. Or close it all together. If your friend doesn't do something, she'll never have any money. Second, if the lease is in your friend's name, she can have the ex escorted off the premises by the cops. Just have all the ex's crap outside on the lawn. If she doesn't wanna go that far, change the locks. But in the unfortunate event the lease is in both names, your friend may just have to move out herself or continue to put up with it.

I would put something very valuable (possibly with you) to cover the $ she withdrew. That way if she doesn't come up with the $ then she could sell this item or keep it. It is called collateral. She needs to close the checking account NOW, so that she can't withdraw anymore $. Who's name is on the rental contract? If she won't move, then give notice and your friend should move and not tell her where she is moving to. She has to take charge of her life and can!

Tell her to stop depositing the check into the account and move out.

Listen to what she says, she probably already knows what she has to do, and support her decisions. Also realize it may take a while, it needs to be on her schedule, not yours. And then, just be there for her with no judgement when she finally decides to get rid of her ex for good.

Get some friends to help her. If this doesn't work, call the police for further actions. It's her house right? She can decide who can stay or leave.

Seek legal advise - first time talk is free usually with a lawyer.

If there are proves that her ex is owing , the she better take him to court.

I would say there are some grounds for legal action to be presued if it comes to that.
