I mean any kind of gifts, but especially the ones with no price tag, such as a relative taking you fishing and teaching you how to fish.

My favorite gifts are:
1. My father reading aloud to us in the evening, because it gave us a love of books, and inquiring minds.
2. A book (Black Beauty) that my Grandma gave me when I was five; she had received it for Christmas in 1904. She wrote my name in it, too, underneath the original inscription.
3. Art supplies, because it gave me a chance to experiment with drawing and painting, and begin a passion for creativity.

Overall, I'd have to say the memorable experiences (trips, nights around a campfire, or freezing while peering through a telescope at the night sky) beat material items.

Certainly gifts that spark a child's creativity & imagination are the best in the catgory of physical things- I don't know if an empty appliance box can ever be beaten ;)

In terms of books, I liked Harold & the Purple crayon as a kid- it really communicated that ANYTHING is possible, and the whole world is an adventure waiting to happen.

In my opinion the best gifts are the kinds that you cannot buy at stores nor anywhere else for the matter. The best gifts comes from the parents and family. Unconditional love, support, guidence, wisdom, acceptance, compassion, loyalty, and ethics are my gifts to my 1 year old. Those, I feel are the most important gifts I can give him which will help and guide him thru his own life and create a path for him. However, material things are valuable as well for they provide memories but it's those that provide life.

I would say good memories. My parents were in their 40's when I was born, (and they acted old all the time) and both worked full time outside the home.

I have a lot of memories of my 2 older sisters taking me places and doing things together.
