The word in the Hebrew is gender-neutral, and if JC had a thingy, he didn't use it, right?
Okay, I know I sound offensive here and I apologize, but I find it highly offensive when people assert that the Deity is male and a female Deity is anathema.
Discuss.

I do not actually consider the Bible a definitive answer either. It was written by men / humans and is therefore fallible.
And Queen, I apologize if I have insulted YOU, but God understands what I mean.

That is one of the things why I don´t follow any religion, and does not mean that I´m an atheist, I think that a concept so wide and powerfull as God shouldn´t be considered as male or female, not even as a person. I think it should be considered an energy.

Forget about JCs "thingy." Just try to imagine the Lord God Almighty, The Alpha Omega, the Prime-Mover Unmoved. the Divine Creator of the Universe with a big "dingle-dangle" hanging down.
We pathetic meat bodied creatures on Earth may out of some reproductive necessity be male-female, (and we all see what a hassle THAT can be,) But I also have no understanding for ANYBODY who would possibly assume that an Almighty Universal God would possibly have a "gender," what for?
(and you can forget the "Jewish virgins" crack, that one has already been done to death for 2000 years)

I can see why one would question God's gender is that person is a female, but as believers the Word we have says "God the Father".
Do not take it personal, we cannot change the definition of Father it's male.
If God was not considered the Father then maybe it could be debated, but He is.
As far as Jesus having relations with a woman, the Bible doesn't say anything about that.
2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

That is correct, God does not have what we consider a gender. However, it seems that God presented Himself as male to Adam, Abraham, and Moses. I can speculate on why God might present as a male:many of the tribes around the area had strong female god/cults and this was a way to differentiate Him as real from those religions to the Israelites.
And no, Jesus did not use it in the context that I assume you are inferring here. He had no offspring, no matter how many books Dan Brown and others write (and if He did, they certainly wouldn't become French...)

I don't really believe in God, but my concept of God was that he (using that because we don't have a gender neutral pronoun) trancends sex. The reason why people think God is male is that most monotheistic religions are linked with patriarchal tradition. And, based on my experience (I was an evangelical Christian for a few years), they're still patriarchal.
Although that answer that the sky would be pink was kind of cute.

hey hun...to call the bible fallible is to call God himself such....yes man did write the bible but not of his own imaginings...2 Peter 1:20-21 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of and private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost...do you honestly think that a perfect God would let a human (knowing we all can not even fathom the mind of God) just set down and write a hand book for other humans when we all are merely simple minded?....of course not...God's word also calls him our heavenly Father not mother....please read it more....it has all the answers you seek if you will just read....love daisy

God isn't human, therefore doesn't have a gender. But people have to make God seem more human and since men have always had a lot more power then women it seemed fit to make God a male.
Funny though, because without a male and a female life wouldn't be.

He is.
At least the god of the Bible is male. The Bible was written in a highly patriarchical society. Therefore they made their god male, like the people who wrote the Bible. In the Bible, especially the Old Testament, women were property. They rated slightly higher than pets.
Of course, many people have made up other gods, too, and some of them are female.

Because believe in the bible and everything is supposedly stands for. Ever read the bible? See how sexist it really is. People assume God is a male because religion has made it so. I'd love to discuss that, but I can never find too many people who can actaully act like adults, conversate, and agree to disagree without getting pissed off in the end.
