Can you recommend a good program either dvd or cd that would be good for a 5 year old to learn spanish--looking for something more than the basics that are taught by Dora LOL we are looking for conversational but for a child.

My wife has used Rosseta Stone for teaching our children. It works well for her too but cost a little bit more than most!

Muzzy. http://www.early-advantage.com/

In Denver, Colorado, next July (2007), there will be a week long course for kids to learn French and Spanish. It is through a program called Fluency Fast, which teaches through stories and songs. It's an excellent program and they will also be having adult classes for many languages at the same time. (Adult classes are available throughout the country at various times.) It could be a very good family activity. http://www.fluencyfast.com (Cost would probably be less than a level of Muzzy.)

The language is not learned (where you forget it shortly thereafter). The language is acquired (where it sticks with you).

In addition to Rosetta Stone, PowerGlide has a program geared specifically for younger elementary kids. Starts with just words, but eventually works up to conversations.

Here's a link to their early elementary Spanish course:

I think for a five year old it would be great if you know somebody who speaks fluent spanish and let your child be around them a lot and have them talk to your child in spanish.
