plastic is simultaneously a blessing and curse for modern civilization and both for its one single property,intension of not reacting with anything.

plastics(e.g. polythene) are made through polymerisation. such as:

n CH2=CH2 ==== (-CH2-CH2-)n [in the presence of 1000-2000 atm pressure, O2, and 1lmost 100 C tem.]

these plastics are usually non reactive with acids, bases, metals, non metals and organic fragmenting enzymes. bcos, it is formed by strong sigma bonds which deserve almost 416.31 KJ energy per mole which cant be accumulated in normal atmosphere. also C has special affinity for H, for which they almost become paraffins.

Now, for this non reacting manner plastics act inert. as a result, it can be used to preserve any organic compound,especially which are prone to bacterial enzymes,acids or atmospheric gases.

But once they are thrown as trash, they become the worst for the environment by existing for 100s of years in the same place almost unchanged.they resist the growth of helpful bacteria,fungi and algae who help to increase fertility. result-decrease in productivity.

also lands occupied by plastics are injurious to buildings. thrown in water-they destroy the helpful living place of fishes by changing the temperature limit and destroying the production of planktons. they also influence the flow of water bodies.

If burnt, they produce injurious CO and CO2.

though these effects are not obsereved in daily life, the process of decline is continuing daily.

We need to use plastic but remodify it first. Recycle and reuse.
