Because people look for differences in themselves and others and start to separate from others based on those. Instead of all believers unite and be strong as one force, they split into different little groups with each one believing that they are correct. I am sure G-d didn't intend for that to happen, but such is the shallow nature of mankind. We love the differences between ourselves and not the commonalities. Sad but true.

Read what I have to say before you judge it.

If your research shows you anything, god is humans attempt to explain the unexplainable. Questions like "what happens when we die?" and "why are we here?" have plagued the human Psyche since the begging of civilization. When you look at Christianity, you can see it was more of a business than a religion. They pride over Jesus and how great he was, but the truth is Jesus would be ashamed of what his teachings turned into. Jesus was much like Confucius, he just wanted everyone to love each other. It was his disciples who ruined it. Who wrote the bible? Not god... not Jesus... humans did. Much like a game of telephone, the real meaning of Christianity has been lost long ago. For 1000's of years, Christianity has acted like a carnivore, stealing peoples money by instilling the fear of hell into the people. How is that a Nobel thing? There is no evidence of hell, Satan, god, or heaven; the only thing there is are humans or this rock we call earth. So believe in your self, not some foolish god. Religion is not real, humans are. All your gospel's were written by people with the only amazing thing left of this earth... imagination.

Well yeah, there is Judaism, Islam, and Chritianity--but I think Christianity is broken up into more denominations than any other religion. There is Catholicism, Protestantism, and Orthodox in Christinity. Then Protestantism is broken up in Methodists, Baptists, Lutherans, Presbyterians, etc.
I guess just the beliefs are technically the same, but the worship is different. For example, Catholics and Protestants practice different kinds of worship (Catholics pray to Mary)...

A single religion with a single set of beliefs, and a shared, same god, what be a World Super Power's wet dream.

Better yet, why not program every human being to make the exact same amount of money, wake up at the same time and drive the same speed to work.

A government would benefit immensely from a society of clone-alikes.

Many people believe that all faiths worship the same god. Many people think that all the other religions are wrong. There are also disagreements on how people should worship god (rituals, holidays, prayer etc...)

Also, there are still many polytheistic religions which have more than one god.

It is impossible to say anything about god without offending or contridicting another faith so it becomes increasingly difficult to collaborate with other religions.

Because different religions had different prophets - the Jews had Moses, Christians had Christ, and Muslims had Mohammed. While they all worship the same God, their scriptures came from different sources, with slightly different wording, that has been interpreted and re-interpreted over and over until you have this amalgam of different sub-sects of the same belief. Then, people will either pick and choose which one suits them best, or more likely, they ascribe to the particular beliefs with which they were raised.

Look at it this way:

For thousands of years, people in different parts of the world (for the most part) never had any contact with one another.

Yet, almost all of them have had some concept of God.

For instance, people in Europe and people in North America had little, if any, contact prior to the year 1492.

Yet, in both places, God was recognized in one form or another.

I think that's pretty amazing. I also think it's solid evidence, for those who remain unconvinced, that God is real.

Yet another reason to not beleive in organized religion. If everyone could come together and just agree that ALL religion sux, then we wouldnt have all these wars and battles over whose religion is better or more right than anothers.
Youll never get everyone to agree to one form of God. So why not dispose of the entire ideaology?

Because not everyone can agree on a subject. Go study about why Martin Luther broke off from the Catholic Church, and you'll get an idea of why it started. Then after Martin Luther, it fractured into many many many different denominations. Go do your own studying and maybe you'll understand.

i think that Every religion have some sort of different sects because people interpretate there faith, or holy books differently to others so they end up doin different things. Example Protestants and Catholis both are Christian religions but they have different views to each other. Similar to Sunnis and Shias both are Islam but they have different views on things.
