the instructions were for the building of the ark and for the tabernacle. We will have another temple (and we have the building instructions for that also) but it is important for us to understand how the ark was made -- each part teaches a lesson.

From what I have learned, the Ark and the Tabernacle (later to become the temple of Solomon) were reflections of what the temple of God looks like in heaven. I agree with the other poster stating that it symbolized the Christ that was to come and the salvation that he would bring. I think the ark of the covenant still exists today. I'm not sure if the Bible tells us that it was destroyed or not, but, yeah, if God commanded something to be done it had to be done exactly as he commanded or he would not except it. To obey his commands is an indication of our faith in him and our trust.

What does your rabbi say about that week's Torah portion? I find the portion of the newsletter I get from shul every week that deals with that week's Torah very enlightening.

Its called "filler" material. If they didnt write all the "begats" and building codes, the book would be about ten pages long and not worthy of being worshipped.

Because every little bit, every measurement, was symbolic of Christ and the salvation to come.

I've heard people who believe that we're going to find it someday. *shrugs* It would be really expensive to make it though...covered in gold and cherubim...
