I agree with ccleganz. Ankara has some good museums, but Istanbul is the place to go, and return to again and again and again, until, maybe you wind up living here.

Ankara is the modern capitol of Turkey, but Istanbul has more to offer from a historical perpective. Sultanahmet alone offers you the Aya Sofia, the Blue Mosque, the Grand Bazaar, the Yerebatan Cistern, etc. Where else can you visit both Europe and Asia but in Istanbul?

You should go to both Istanbul has more place to visit but Ankara has the place where Ataturk is.
The south is nice to Bodrum, Fethiye, Antalya.
The whole country is beautiful.

I fly twice a year to Turkey and I couldn`t tell you witch City is nicer because all Turkey is wonderful.
