Yes - youve uncovered yet another contradiction in the Bible. Of course, beleivers are going to tell you that you are taking it out of context, or that you arent interpreting it correctly.
I have one response to both of those answers: If the Bible was written by the divine inspriation of God, wouldnt an all knowing being have known that people would interpret and take things out of contect? In that case, wouldnt this all knowing being write something that isnt open to intrepretation and conjecture???

Genesis 1:27 was simply an affirmation to the reader that God truly created Adam and Eve, not that mankind existed before they did. It wasn't meant to imply that there were others created before Adam and Eve. Read the Creation story again carefully. It states, "In the BEGINNING God....." meaning that from that point before, there was only God. Evereything else was created singularly by God in the six day period he ordained for Creation. No other mention is made of multiplicitous creations of men and women running around. There are many affirmations made in the Word of God on different subjects for the sole purpose of providing proof of it's authorship. Write me sometime and I'll share one or two with you.

Many believe Eve was not the first woman. This honor went to Lilith, who was created as Adam's equal. However, being female, she used her freedom for evil. God got rid of her in a hurry, and then made Eve, who was Adam's inferior. With woman's new role as being subservient to man, the world worked out a lot better. Lilith is now considered a demonic mother figure.
I'm not saying I believe in any of this down-with-women stuff, I'm just relating the mythos.

Dear Christy - Let us consider together that God is a spirit. A spirit-mind. His Creation - His Kingdom - is in His Likeness. All spirit-minds Created by God's Thought.
God, Himself embodies two natures, so to speak: He is all Powerful and Absolute. To ancient man the male counterpart -dominates ; and is seen to be the masculine nature of God.
God, Himself, overflows to His Children - through His One joined Mind / Kingdom - a love of such ecstacy the human body can not withstand it. He keeps the design of His Kingdom SAFE. Unopposed, peaceful, and nurtured by His ceaseless joy and love for His Children. THESE are qualities that mankind acknowledges as the feminine. So, the nature of God is an embodiment of both natures in One.
Note that in the Great Separation, mankind now sees, in the physical world, little safety and constant limitations and opposition to himself. But, for people of Certainty - they can look beyond this to their Truth - in the Eternal. The Kingdom stands, in Eternity, as it has always been and shall always be.
Do not think satanics, any devil or demons alter the design and safety of His Kingdom. The minds that have turned to opposition of God do so only in their fanciful imaginations. He is untouched and so are His Eternal Children. There is no REAL opposition to God. Although mental illness - spiritual illness is never funny - a mouse roaring at God - or His Child roaring at his Creator - is a somewhat humorous image! However, we need to take spiritual illness seriously for the soul that has dis-integrated into it.
Ancient man is saying in your biblical quotations that he has sensed the dual nature of God. Woman existed before she appeared - in the physical on earth. Ancient man says it more clearly still - so God created man-[ kind ] in his own image. . .male and female he created them."

Not sure I understood the question correctly, but I'll try.
The Scripture you quote is an overview. We are being told what he created and when (which day). The next part, lay out the details of how he created man and then woman.
Sort of like, I went out to dinner last night at 6 pm.
then later I would tell you in detail about getting to the restaurant, and what we ate etc.

The traditional answer to this question is that Genesis 1 is an overview on creation while Genesis 2 goes into more detail about the specifics of the creation.

I think you should review the edition of the bible your reading, I´m almost 100% sure that the closest one to the original in Hebrew says something different, because the reason why God made female is because he first made Adam and he complained to God that he, as well as all the rest of the animals in paradise, needed a female to feel company.
