Of course it's not offensive. It may of course shock some people that you wish them a good day out of nowhere, since society has become so self-serving...but if you came up to me and said those words, I would be like 'right on! You too!' Positive energy is positive energy, no matter what religion you are affiliated with. I think it comes down to frame of mind too. If you tell a REALLY pissed off person who just got fired, their dog got ran over, they just got divorced, and they found out they owe $500,000,000 in taxes, telling them to have a good day might be insulting to their situation. But that's the risk you take talking to strangers, you don't know their situation.
For the most part though anyone who is offended by someone telling them to have a good day needs to invest in some positive energy of their own!
P.s. I didnt see the word pray anywhere in your question so I am not sure what these other people are ferring to, but it can be a huge insult to tell someone you will pray for them, because you are insinuating they NEED prayer to get through their situation, thus insulting their own ability to take care of it. Maybe something along the line of 'Iwill think happy thoughts for you' or 'I will be cheering for you' might be less offensive.

Some people just get offended when the are confronted with a loving Christian who is full of the joy of the Spirit. They're having a rotten time in this life and they don't like it when they see other people who have a future and a hope that sustains them day by day. Don't let some sourpuss choke out the joy you would share with others. Just pray for those people to have the veil of darkness removed from their hearts and minds and for Christ to usher them into the Kingdom of light in whose name I pray, amen!

Debra M,
Are you too humble?
Why do people get on this 'wonderful' kick?
Here is some reality for you;
A lot of times people don't care that you are nice. Your goal as a Christian is not to be nice. Your goal is to trust God and die to yourself. If you can do that and be nice at the same time, you have a talent that has evaded me.
But St. Paul said that we are at war. And that we should wear the whole armor of God. You just don't seem ready for a fight.
Come on RC! Wake up and know that there is a war being waged against us! We must fight the enemy with " weapons that are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. "
It's not time to make yourself into the posterchild of humility.
You know what I am saying is true. You know that I am a Protestant, but I am being a Christian. You be more of a Christian too. Your Bible is full of things to consider. You need to start considering!!!!
Time enough for rest in heaven, now go!

It's called projection, it's a self defense mechanism according to Freud. People grab their own insecurities and issues and project it into others - for example, a person losing an argument will call someone else stupid.
When you wish someone a Good Day, someone who is Not Having A Very Good Day, projects their Not Good Day into you, and wishes you to have one of Those. Then, they call you out for whatever problems they have.
For example, this one time I saw a post of a girl about how she saw a "Peace" sign on a truck. She rambled about how she hates it when people want "Peace" for others. She started 'screaming' as best you can online about how dare a person be wanting peace when theres' so many problems in teh world, and bills to pay, and food to buy, and children to take care of, etc.
It's just peoples' fear of themselves and lack of communication.. dont' feel bad about offering someone wishes to have a good day. In fact, I hope you have a wonderful life full of experience and joy.
Good luck

I don't know the whole story, but you'd have to be pretty miserable to get offended by having someone wish you a good day. I would prolly say thank you and wish the same back. Blessed be!

I'm terribly sorry that there seems to be so many jerks out there that are so sour-pussed that a pleasant wish for their good tidings fails to cheer them up. I for one appreciate them and send them with all good intentions regardless of the type of conversation I've had. I hope your day gets better and that people that speak with you on a sore subject will learn to get over themselves and be decent human beings!

If it is offensive, then I guess I'm just as guilty as you are. I wish my friends and family a good day, a good night and sometimes strangers while I am walking and meet someone on the street.
