If there is not much light coming into the room then you should consider warm colors with a strong undertone of yellow. Brighter colors would be better but are not necessary. You can also use glossy paint so that there is a degree of 'reflection' or 'fake light' about but I personally do not like this option.

The best suggestion that I can give is to get a good yellow that is not too strong and then change the lamps in your kitchen to provide more light (fluorescent bulbs in a off white or light yellow lamp). If there is space on the wall, decorate it as if there were a window... using semi-opaque curtains that contrast to the paint. Place a flat mirror behind it and cover it in "frosted" contact paper... so it doesn't look like a mirror but instead resembles a frosted window. If done correctly, it that can reflect some of the light from the lamps and give the impression that the light is coming from outside.

Anything bright and white. White always brightens, so pick a bright bold colour to go with and go for it. Yellow and white, red and white, blue and white, even black and white. Think primary colours ala the 1950's. Also change your light bulbs to the Reveal bulbs. They give you a brighter more natural light, and will give an illusion of outside light coming in.
Another thing you can do is put in a "lightbox window". This is a fake window with bright bulbs inside hidden. They are used to simulate sunlight coming through a window. You decorate it like your other windows (if you have any) and turn on the sunshine whenever you want it.

Yellow, very soft and buttery, not gold. Look at Sherwin Williams illuminescents. They are crisp and clear, not muddy-looking.

a pale yellow, not neon yellow or primary yellow. Basically white with a tint of yellow in it.
