Generally, I would have to say no...eating only salad is not a healthy way to lose weight. Your body needs a balance of nutrients, vitamins, and representatives from the food group pyramid to function properly. Ask yourself this...did your sister put the weight back on as soon as she started eating normally again? If the answer is yes, then it was only a temporary solution. The only sure fire way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. This means a little excercise with a balanced diet. Salad is good for you, especially if you use varied greens (think spring mix with arugala, baby spinach, raddichio, etc.) instead of iceburg lettuce. Iceburg is mostly water and offers little nutritional value aside from hydration. Also, you cannot drown your salads in mayonnaise or creamy based dressings...choose vinegarettes on the side and dip your bites in it. If you want some nutritional meal ideas...try kraftfoods.com. This website offers easy, inexpensive recipes with nutritional information. That way you can watch your calories and feel satisfied. Oh...and if you really want to get in shape...don't forget the EXERCISE!!

You need some cheese and some other veggies, maybe some tomatos on it but yeah that's fine. You need some variety in your diet...that will make you more healthy. Anything in moderation will help you lose weight. I've been eating around 1500 calories per day and my weight has dropped 25 pounds in a month. That's without exercise. I work two jobs so I don't have time to eat like I used to. I cut out fast food, sugar, caffiene, and alcohol. I've just started exercising though, but I find myself starving after working out. (45 minutes in treadmill) So I don't expect to a lot of exercise in the week becasue I eat more and would rather spend my free hours sleeping. Oh yeah, I drink LOTS of water! Good Luck on the Subway thing!

salad once a day like your sister did is not a bad idea if you want to make an effort to get in more veggies and your other meals are fairly balanced. but 24/7? ok, when you do something to the extreme like that it's probably going to turn out badly. but, i'll give you the benefit of the doubt. you didn't mention what type of salad. if you had something like a grilled chicken caesar salad hold the creamy dressing, croutons and light on the cheese, that might not be so crazy after all. definitely boring, but at least you're getting protein and good carbs in every meal and keep the fat fairly low. whatever you do, don't deprive your body of protein. if you start to lose muscle in the process of your weight loss, it'll only slow your metabolism and make it even harder to lose weight.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

Eating salads for lunch wouldn't be too bad, but you still need the nutrients found in meats, dairy products and fruits. Also with salad, you will add tons of calories if you use a fatty dressing. Try a low fat or low calorie dressing. My favorite salad is a chicken Caesar salad, and that makes a great meal!

That's a crash diet and I personally don't think they really work.
You send your system into starvation mode and it really tries to make up for it later on so you will gain the weight back plus more.
I would eat what you like but less of it and include a balanced diet.
It's not easy to diet because it really is like calculated starvation. I would set up a diet of lots of fruits and veggies.
Have low sweets and carbs and not too much fat if you can. Some foods that are good for you have a lot of carbs so be carefull. The idea is to eat enough, but don't eat too much. And take the weight off slowly.

it would help you lose weight because red meat does contain a lot of fat. have you ever seen a fat vegetarian? It will hurt you though unless you do something to supplement the other nutrients you would be missing. if you really want to become a vegetarian you have to worry about protein and other supplements. you could also try not eating white bread and only eating meat like fish.
