Recently groups in India found that these soda products had many pesticides and toxins in them.

We already know that soda is so acidic that the trucks carrying the soda must have a hazardous material sign on them.
Not too mention is has the dreaded "High Fructose Corn Syrup"...a substance that is unrecognizable by the body and is immediately stored as fat when digested.
So why drink something that is clearly so bad for you?

Everyone that has answered so far is addicted? That's pretty bad. I'd reccomend switching to coffee for your caffeine intake and lowering down from it...maybe it will help reduce the headaches from the withdrawal.
Also, breathing is necessary. Drinking a sugar fat shake like coke is not.

I like Pepsi but I'll drink Coke, too. I suppose it's because it's an easy pick-me-up when I'm tired. It's also fairly cheap--you can get a 2-Liter bottle for about a dollar.
Also, I agree with the above answer, but that goes for McD's as well as the sodas. I don't crave other fast food restaurant's foods but for some reason, after I eat at McDonald's I want to have my next meal there, too. Same goes for soda. If I drink Pepsi or Coke, I'll crave exactly Pepsi or Coke in a few hours. And since it's so cheap it's not that big a deal. And before you know it, I've been drinking that stuff for years!

There are at least 3 things wrong with this information.
1) The products in India may have pesticides and toxins in them, I don't believe the North American products do. Between governmental health regulations Coke and Pepsi have to deal with and the consumer backlash Coke and Pepsi would suffer if it was discovered that these products were actually bad as in toxic, poisonous, I can't imagine Coke or Pepsi would let this happen. I can't believe that even India's product could be tainted given Coke's and Pepsi's (like McDonalds') interest in maintaining a universally reliable product.
2) It is patently not true that Coke and Pepsi trucks have to be placarded. I know what these placards look like and have seen them on lots of carriers to know that they are NOT on Coke and/or Pepsi trucks.
3) This statement is inconsistent. A substance which is not recognised by the body is eliminated by the body, either eliminated in the sense of killed (like a virus) or eliminated in the sense of expelled (like an inert substance). It is stored because it is a carbohydrate and your body is designed to store carbohydrates for use as a future energy source.

This is like someone asking why do you breath the air because it can cause you cancer.
Or better yet that coffee will cause cancer, however the amount of coffee you would need to drink in your life time would amout to the water in on of the Great Lakes.

That would be addiction my dear. Smoking is bad for you, but people smoke. Being fat is bad for you, but I am sure not skinny. Why do people do the things they do? We are just people and we have our weaknesses.
