I work in a county position and got a bulletin about it in my paycheck envelope today. I hadn't heard about it on the news lately so I thought the threat was decreasing.

P.S. I found that there are 10 countries that have had confirmed cases of this flu. A total of 239 cases and out of those 140 people died.

The threat of a pandemic flu virus from the avian flu is if anthing, rising. The virus is rapidly shifting and mutating, and is likely just a matter of time before it is easily transmissable human to human. The media is not shouting it from the roof tops because if they did, then people would expect the government to do something about it, and there really isn't anything that can be done until the virus stops mutating. Any vaccine created now would be ineffective, and once transmissable human to human, it will move too fast to create a vaccine in time to do any good, it does take at least six months to develop a vaccine. By that time, 40% or more of the planetary population will be infected, and as it is a new virus against which we have literally no natural defensive immunity, it will be more than likely lethal to a great many. Make the Spanish Influenza of 1918 look like the common cold.
What the government is doing is launching an educational and planning campaign to try to minimize the effects in this country of a pandemic, I suggest you go to http://www.foh.dhhs.gov/public/pandemicinfo/default.html
and find out what you can do in your own community.
