Hello - I am considering buying our own alcohol for a wedding where there will be 85 people.

We want to allow a bit more than the half bottle per person so people have a bit more for the reception. Also, in summer, what % of white and red would you recommend.

Many thanks.

Hey, if it was *my* family, you'd need 170 bottles, LOL...

I'm not sure how many bottles, you've gotten some better suggestions for that than I can come up with. As for a mix, I'd recommend a little more white than red, maybe 60%/40%. I'm thinking that while you'll have plenty of regular wine drinkers, there'll probably be a core of folk who don't take much in, and the occasional wine-drinkers I know tend to gravitate to the whites. Just my opinion.

Few people will drink more than one bottle over a meal. Many will drink less, or none at all because of driving etc. So for the meal I'd recommend about half a bottle per person. As for before the meal and after the meal, I'd guess at an average of 1/4 bottle per person? And get some lager and spirits in for that too.

So for the wine I'm reckoning 65 bottles. In my experience more drink white than red. Maybe get 40 white and 25 red? I'd start with one bottle of each per table, and have more bottles available for when the first ones get empty.

Hope you have a good wedding.

Calculate 4 glasses of wine per bottle, two glasses per person. I think 50 bottles of wine or 4 1/2 cases (12 bottles per case). For a summer wedding, it depends on what type of food you are serving. If it is chicken or fish, then make the white to red wine ratio 3 to 1. If you want to make it half and half, that's okay too because red wine seems to be more popular these days than white, but that is typical of an evening event. I would recommend a good Chardonnay as a white selection and a pleasant Cabernet Sauvignon ans the red. If you can get it in your area, try the Cake Bread Vineyards Chardonnay, and the Justin Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon. Both are California area wines from the Napa/Sonoma and Paso Robles wine regions.

as for % of red to white....well i'd personally just make it an easy 50-50 unless you know for a fact that more people will enjoy red?! or vice versa.

# of bottles also depends on how many people will be drinking wine in the first place, then how many of those will have 2-3 glasses? you can usually get about 5+ full glasses out of a bottle.

for instance: 80 people drink wine in general 40for red and 40 for white. then only about 10 from each group of W and R drink 1 glass, that's about 2 bottles/per 10 people

the other 30pp of W and R drink 2+ glasses of wine. making it initially 6 bottles/30pp....but since they're drinking 2+glasses, ya might want to bump that ratio up to 8 btls/30pp

Coming to a total of 20 bottles of wine 10R 10W

(i so hope that made sense!!)

Congrats!

As an alcohol transference engineer might I suggest that 4 glasses per bottle is average.
Now you may want to do carafes. Put a red and white at each table. Make sure you have an ice water pitcher at the table so that the imbibers who have had enough can hold on to a glass filled with something. Its a comfort thing with drinkers.

I know it sounds obvious, but kids don't generally drinkhalf a bottle, there's no need to buy for them. Also some people are bound to drive, so I'd go for 35 bottles - 20 red and 15 white

Hi you get 6 glasses of wine per person so if you get 60 bottles this will give approx 4.5 glasses each.the best mix is 2 to 1 so 60 white 20 red for white i would recommend German Gewurztraminer a nice medium-dry, red any Chianti its not to heavy

I would let them buy it themselves
but 65 bottles would give 3/4 of a bottle each
Mostly white in the summer

I'm confused- are you talking about wine or liquor? And what is your dinner menu- that would help. More people prefer white than red. I work in a steak house and sell more white which is contrary to classic pairings. I would do about 60 bottles. If you don't use it all just store it or hand it out to the bridal party.
