The sandwedge is used for near the green or putting surface or in the bunker.
The pitching wedge is used if you are within 75 yards away from the green.
The 7,8,9 irons are used if you are within 75-120 yards away from the green. 7 iron is every beginner golfer's best friend.
5 & 6 irons are the mid irons. You should be able to hit 12-140 yards with these.
3 & 4 irons are the long irons. However, they are hard to handle & most normal golfers don't use them.
A hybird, or 7 Wood, is every beginner golfer's second best friend. Very easy to handle. Most ppl can hit around 150 yards with that.
I personally like a 5 Wood over a 3 Wood cuz I can control the direction better. Most ppl can hit around 170 yards with that.
Most people use a 3 Wood over a Driver cuz you can control the direction better. Most ppl can hit 170-190 yards with that.
But if you like long distance, like 200 yards+, use a driver. Just watch out & don't get pissed off if it goes into the woods.

woods = long distances
irons = long but not quite as long as woods
chipper = for in the rough and close up shots.
sand wedge = self explanatory
pitching wedge = same as chipper
putter = use while on the green.
