No it's not a requirement to be saved. Some people like to make God into what they want Him to be. Since you know what the Word says, follow it. It's perfect and people aren't.

Speaking in Tongues is normally referred to Baptism of holy spirit or born again.
John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
3:8 The wind blows where it pleases and you hear the sound thereof, but you can not tell from where it comes, and where it goes so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
According to Christ there is no sign of being born again.
But he is talking to a religious teacher that means it has a very deeper meaning rather than a simple sign.
Remember the Babylon:
Genesis11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
Confusion of languages
Acts 2:7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
2:8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
The language confusion was removed.
To spread the Gospel to the world in all languages.
Well it is a complicated study but this the simplest way I have right now to explain where as I can lecture it for hours.
Thank you.

I believe in the Trinity of God but I go to a Apostolic church.
We all come to believe what we believe because of certain ideas (as Christians) and we tend to make that our main point.
I was baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost more than 15 years ago, but have not received the Holy Ghost yet.
A few weeks ago I was baptized in the name of Jesus (nothing so far).
There seem to be few people who are willing to ask God about this question of what name(s) to use at baptism. I know of one man (trinitarian) who asked several years ago, and God told him it did not make a difference. A Apostolic women I know has recently decided that either way is correct. But they for the most part do not tell other about this point (they do not think it a sticking point for non believers, and it will only cause a division in their churches).

You seem to know the Bible fairly well and I applaud you..speaking in tongues is a gift of the holy spirit and not everyone has that although one can acquire it by asking the spirit for that gift. But you must know the intention when you ask for it..why do you want to speak in tongue? for healing others? think it is cool? It is NOT a requirement in the church that is asking you. Perhaps they say that to convince you to join that church...I personally feel there is something weird about what they have told you. What is important is to be baptised and you will be saved. And you are right to be baptised IS in the name of the father and the son who is Jesus and the holy spirit...I don't know what kind of doctrine they are imparting to you but something is not right here...I suggest you go somewhere and get advise from a pastor or priest. Some churches like the catholic church require you to attend a cathecism class of some sort to know more about the bible and what baptism will mean to you etc...that will be a good start. It will help you to understand the concept of what you will be going through..Always, pray for guidance and you will be surprise at where the Holy Spirit will lead you...Good luck and I will also pray for you!

No you do not have to speak in tongues to be saved. Although, being baptized in the Holy Spirit does help your walk with the Lord tremendously. Apostolic people forget about Matt 28 where the Lord explicitly says in red letter, mind you, that we are to be baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Some people just like to pick and choose what to use in the word, and that is taking it out of context. You have to read the whole Word of God and not leave anything out...

Jesus himself told the apostles to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Speaking in tongues has never been required for salvation.
Sounds like some strange beliefs and practices there.

Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Anyone who tells you different is preaching "another" Gospel. There are no human works, whether it be speaking in tongues or baptism that will bring salvation. I believe tongues was a special gift for a special time. In fact, the tongues spoken of in Acts was different languages since in Jerusalem at that time, there were people from different lands who spoke different languages. I don't believe what is called tongues today is Biblical. It is not edifying to the entire body of believers, which is what our gifts are for, and they do not have an interpreter which is mandated in Scripture.

No, Biblically, there is no where in the Bible that says that speaking in tongues is a requirement to be saved. And why do people make salvation so complicated? The Bible says the gods of this world has blinded people so that they will not believe, I think and I believe that many are those who are outside to let people astray. Such are even in denominations where you might have thought to be a better place. Please, we are saved only by the grace of God.
God bless.

No, the gift of tongues is not a requirement to be saved. It is my understanding that tongues is a spiritual 'gift' from the Holy Spirit. Just as people have the gift of discernment or the gift of pastorship. And what do they think the father, the SON, and the Holy Spirit is? The son is Jesus! Your friends don't have all their facts straight I think. Don't listen to them. The only thing you need is what you already have.

Well - I am Pentecostal and we believe that speaking in tongues is a gift from God. It is not a requirement to be saved nor is it to get into Heaven. But, if God is offering you this great gift, why wouldn't you take it? It is wonderful to speak to God in your prayer and to speak in tongue knowing he is the only one who can understand. Some have the gift of interpretation and some of prophesy, but most of us only do it during our prayer time and our study time alone with God.
No - it is not required - just a gift we should receive.
You are right - getting saved and the grace of God is the only way to Heaven.
