And I don't mean I want to know how knowledgable you are at emptying them!! Out of curiosity though is there a single word for beer glass collectors? I have a small 1/4 litre glass which I'm fairly certain came out of Germany in the 1940s. I should think it's commemorative but for what reason? It's decorated thus: A crest with "seit 1704" beside it and "Stettener Bier" written underneath. Opposite this is a Babylonian motif headed "4500 JAHRE BIER" Below that the heading is "BABYLON" and underneath a handmaiden or wife seems to have brought a pot of beer to a man who is sitting down and drinking from the pot with a very large straw or pipe. A small antelope is leaping over the pot and the writing underneath appears to be
"u m 2400 v.Chi". Does anyone know what it's all about?

Stettener is the name of the brewery that had the glass made.
It had been in business since the year 1704.
Beer, according to many sources, was invented in Babylonia at least 4,500 years ago. At that time, it was common to drink beer with a straw out of a pot, since there was a lot of stuff floating on it (they hadn't learned about filtering yet).
The picture represents a typical scene from about 2,400 B.C.

Well I believe the technical for the hobby is alcoholism. As for the year it is hard to tell exactly when based on your description. However it is certainly after the 1870's when people started using glass to drink beer out of. Before the invention of Pilsner by the Czechs (during the 1870's) beer was cloudy and so they drank from metal tankards. I can translate for you the crest "seit 1704" no surprise means since 1704. "Stettener Bier" is a reference to the style of beer which fits they year 1704 as this style was first popularized at this time. The back of it is refering to the Babylonians who first brewed beer over 4500 years ago (hence 4500 Jahre Bier). As for the "u m 2400 v.Chi" I have no idea.

well jahre beer 4500 translates as 4500 years beer and sine 1704 means since 1704 and stettner bier is the maker

so stettners make 4500 years beer and theyve been doing it since 1704

i can only guess that u m 2400 v chi is the volume or strength

Ten US beers is a incredibly modest volume for a sea coast occasion. The parts and expenses in basic terms look vast given which you're no longer sued to paying for those forms of quantities. As has been mentioned, you will in all likelihood save money via finding out to purchase for a cask; shop it cool (a moist towel laid on it is going to in all likelihood do the trick) and it would be fantastic for the time you go with it. some brewers grant beer in plastic packing containers, often called "polypins" which incorporate approximately 4.5 Imperial gallons and those will shop for a week certainly. .

i don't know what it's called to be a beer glass collector. i have a small collection of beer stines, which all have tops on them and they're made out of really sturdy material not glass. the glass you have from germany sounds like something that would be used in an old bar there. but exactly, i don't know unless i saw it or saw a picture of it.
