With the below written in their Holy Book, how can Islam truly be peaceful. The peaceful ones translate the koran differently, but they all say they are Muslim. They all say that the others are not Islam. How can anyone prove that the other is or isn't??? Don't say it is just a few extremists, DAILY, DAILY, we see the body count. If you are peaceful then Thank God, but there is not way to know who is or isn't as far as I can see. Answers, opinions.

"When the sacred months are over, slay the idolaters (non-Muslims) wherever you find them. Arrest them, besiege them, and lie in ambush everywhere for them. If they repent (convert) and take to prayer and render the alms levy, allow them to go their way. God is forgiving and merciful."Sura 9:5

"Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends. They are friends with one another. Whoever of you seeks their friendship shall become one of their number. God does not guide the wrongdoers."

This is not meant to accuse anyone, but to look for explanations on how to tell who is peaceful and who is not.. Not to offend or condemn.. Many out there can not tell who is who.

although interestingly the group identified in the Koran as loving you more than others... is not christians or Jews but the !!!Christ followers!!! in Sura 5

",,, nearest among them in love to the believers wilt thou find those who say, "We are Christians": because amongst these are men devoted to learning and men who have renounced the world, and they are not arrogant.

83.
AA For when they listen to what has been revealed to this Apostle, you can see their eyes brim over with tears at the truth which they recognise, and say: "O Lord, we believe; put us down among those who bear witness (to the truth).
,,,"

clearly the Lord of Christians ... is Jesus....Lord being the root word of Church and Jesus the Apostle and the sent one from God

I do not see places that encourage loving mercy as strrongly as there are in the Bible, not to the same extent... I do not see forgiveness and reconcilliantion put at as high a premium... the Bible has places not to look down on your enemey... to pray for them and love your neighbor meaning anyone you come across
even strangers according to the prophet Jesus

ok first in the verses you showed in 9:5. this is fighting those who are fighting muslims, not just everyone walk in the street. for more understand keep reading till you reach 9:13.

[13] Will you not fight a people who have violated their oaths (pagans of Makkah) and intended to expel the Messenger while they did attack you first? Do you fear them? Allâh has more right that you should fear Him if you are believers.

this verse talks about those arab pagans who used to tortured anyone converted to Islam, and they are the one who kicked the prophet Muhammad out of his town, and they kill anyone who is a muslim.

and the 2nd verse you showed, is not translated well. if Islam allow muslim to marry christian or jewish, how they can't be friends? it's not about friends, it's about wali, and wali means a leader over the muslims or a guider. like in a muslim country muslim should have their own control over the government. just like how Israel are the only one who has control over theirs.

about true muslim, those who do not kill the innocent without no right, and those who do not kill their own self as it's highly forbidean in the Quran.

4: 29-30
[29] ......And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allâh is Most Merciful to you.

[30] And whoever commits that through aggression and injustice, We shall cast him into the Fire, and that is easy for Allâh.

and those who help the needy, kind toward their parents, neighbours, kind toward those who came for peace (non-muslim), forgiviness, merciful, spread peace, work honestly and much more.

Muhammad (P) warned the muslim world from being extremist.

Why don't you read the whole chapter 9 yourself instead of copying and pasting a single verse from some Islam bashing website?

Psalm 137:8-9
8 O daughter of Babylon, O destroyed one, O the happiness of him who repayeth to thee thy deed, That thou hast done to us.
9 O the happiness of him who doth seize, And hath dashed thy sucklings on the rock!

Samuel 15:2-4
2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.
3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ***.
4 And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.

Numbers 31:17-18:
17 Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man,
18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.

Hosea 13:16 (King James) Samaria will bear her guilt because she has rebelled against her God.
They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open.

Revelation 2:22-23 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

From a Christian standpoint, you can only be a "real" Muslim if you are monotheist and believe that God is Love.

In other words, God has no ill will toward anyone and only wants peace and healing.

you can pull anything vile from an old book, the Talmud contains questionable demeaning phrases, the New Testament condemns plenty of people, and ive never read the Koran, but ill take your word for it.

religion has killed millions of people since its wonderful advent, but you can still seperate your faith from your book. i wouldnt single out Islam, have you heard of the Crusades?

They tend to be religious fanatics, in that they give religion a priority above anything else, like nationality. So don't expect a reasonable discussion. They are raised with hate, all of them. and hate is what they do; all sects.

There are just as many places in the bible where God tells his followers to kill "infadels". You can't really judge on that.

Thank you for such a question.
Dear brother/sister please see the below answer given by Dr. Zakir naik to similer question . You will find that you have a complet wrong idea about Islam and muslims on which all of you base your conclusions:

Question:
If Islam is the best religion, why are many of the Muslims dishonest, unreliable, and involved in activities such as cheating, bribing, dealing in drugs, etc.?

Answer:
1. Media maligns Islam
Islam is without doubt the best religion but the media is in the hands of the westerners who are afraid of Islam. The media is continuously broadcasting and printing information against Islam. They either provide misinformation about Islam, misquote Islam or project a point out of proportion, if any.

When any bomb blasts take place anywhere, the first people to be accused without proof are invariably the Muslims. This appears as headlines in the news. Later, when they find that non-Muslims were responsible, it appears as an insignificant news’ item.

If a 50 year old Muslim marries a 15 year old girl after taking her permission, it appears on the front page but when a 50 year old non-Muslim rapes a 6 year old girl, it may appear in the news in the inside pages as ‘Newsbriefs’. Everyday in America on an average 2,713 cases of rape take place but it doesn’t appear in the news, since it has become a way of life for the Americans.

2. Black sheep in every community:
I am aware that there are some Muslims who are dishonest, unreliable, who cheat, etc. but the media projects this as though only Muslims are involved in such activities. There are black sheep in every community. I know Muslims who are alcoholics and who can drink most of the non-Muslims under the table.

3. Muslims best as a whole:
Inspite of all the black sheep in the Muslim community, Muslims taken on the whole, yet form the best community in the world. We are the biggest community of tee-totallers as a whole, i.e. those who don’t imbibe alcohol. Collectively, we are a community which gives the maximum charity in the world. There is not a single person in the world who can even show a candle to the Muslims where modesty is concerned; where sobriety is concerned; where human values and ethics are concerned.

4. Don’t judge a car by its driver:
If you want to judge how good is the latest model of the "Mercedes" car and a person who does not know how to drive sits at the steering wheel and bangs up the car, who will you blame? The car or the driver? But naturally, the driver. To analyze how good the car is, a person should not look at the driver but see the ability and features of the car. How fast is it, what is its average fuel consumption, what are the safety measures, etc. Even if I agree for the sake of argument that the Muslims are bad, we can’t judge Islam by its followers? If you want to judge how good Islam is then judge it according to its authentic sources, i.e. the Glorious Qur’an and the Sahih Hadith.

5. Judge Islam by its best follower i.e. Prophet Mohammed (pbuh):
If you practically want to check how good a car is put an expert driver behind the steering wheel. Similarly the best and the most exemplary follower of Islam by whom you can check how good Islam is, is the last and final messenger of God, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Besides Muslims, there are several honest and unbiased non-Muslim historians who have acclaimed that prophet Muhammad was the best human being. According to Michael H. Hart who wrote the book, ‘The Hundred Most Influential Men in History’, the topmost position, i.e. the number one position goes to the beloved prophet of Islam, Muhammad (pbuh). There are several such examples of non-Muslims paying great tributes to the prophet, like Thomas Carlyle, La-Martine, etc.

Question:
Doesn’t Islam promote violence, bloodshed and brutality since the Qur’an says that Muslims should kill the kuffar where ever they find them?

Answer:
A few selected verses from the Qur’an are often misquoted to perpetuate the myth that Islam promotes violence, and exhorts its followers to kill those outside the pale of Islam.

1. Verse from Surah Taubah
The following verse from Surah Taubah is very often quoted by critics of Islam, to show that Islam promotes violence, bloodshed and brutality:

"Kill the mushriqeen (pagans, polytheists, kuffar) where ever you find them."
[Al-Qur’an 9:5]

2. Context of verse is during battlefield
Critics of Islam actually quote this verse out of context. In order to understand the context, we need to read from verse 1 of this surah. It says that there was a peace treaty between the Muslims and the Mushriqs (pagans) of Makkah. This treaty was violated by the Mushriqs of Makkah. A period of four months was given to the Mushriqs of Makkah to make amends. Otherwise war would be declared against them. Verse 5 of Surah Taubah says:

"But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is oft-forgiving, Most merciful."
[Al-Qur’an 9:5]

This verse is quoted during a battle.

3. Example of war between America and Vietnam
We know that America was once at war with Vietnam. Suppose the President of America or the General of the American Army told the American soldiers during the war: "Wherever you find the Vietnamese, kill them". Today if I say that the American President said, "Wherever you find Vietnamese, kill them" without giving the context, I will make him sound like a butcher. But if I quote him in context, that he said it during a war, it will sound very logical, as he was trying to boost the morale of the American soldiers during the war.

4. Verse 9:5 quoted to boost morale of Muslims during battle

Similarly in Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 5 the Qur’an says, "Kill the Mushriqs where ever you find them", during a battle to boost the morale of the Muslim soldiers. What the Qur’an is telling Muslim soldiers is, don’t be afraid during battle; wherever you find the enemies kill them.

5. Shourie jumps from verse 5 to verse 7
Arun Shourie is one of the staunchest critics of Islam in India. He quotes the same verse, Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 5 in his book ‘The World of Fatwahs’, on page 572. After quoting verse 5 he jumps to verse 7 of Surah Taubah. Any sensible person will realise that he has skipped verse 6.

6. Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 6 gives the answer
Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 6 gives the answer to the allegation that Islam promotes violence, brutality and bloodshed. It says:

"If one amongst the pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah; and then escort him to where he can be secure that is because they are men without knowledge."
[Al-Qur’an 9:6]

The Qur’an not only says that a Mushriq seeking asylum during the battle should be granted refuge, but also that he should be escorted to a secure place. In the present international scenario, even a kind, peace-loving army General, during a battle, may let the enemy soldiers go free, if they want peace. But which army General will ever tell his soldiers, that if the enemy soldiers want peace during a battle, don’t just let them go free, but also escort them to a place of security?

This is exactly what Allah (swt) says in the Glorious Qur’an to promote peace in the world.

Dear brother if you read through the life of prophet and understand Quran properly then you will really realize how much the enemies of Islam has worked to destroy it's image in your eyes. The only source for studying Islam is Quran and Sunnah, you will find out when was the above verses revealed and in what occasions and wether it applies now or wether it was an order to prophet during the war time. There are a lot of thing which you have not seen, you just took a verse from the Quran without relating to in which occasion it was said and why and to whom. please learn the Quran as whole and you will find out truth.
beware that life of many muslims have gone far away from the teachings of Islam.
