Ok lets set the record straight here, I see a lot of older proclaimed Wiccans answering this but why aren't you setting the others straight. Wicca is NOT ancient. It is around 70 years old. It isn't just becoming popular, it has been since its conception. The reason many ppl believe it to be old is the fact we take a lot of ideas from the old ways, ie. Shamans which happen to be one of the first religions. Wicca isn't older then Christianity, but Paganism IS. Paganism was around 2000 years before Christ was even born. I have been practicing Wicca for almost 7 years now but I research everything thoroughly before I jump into anything. If there are any questions reguarding my statement please pick up ANY book by Scott Cunningham or Ann Moura. Either author is very very good.:)

I think that it seems like most Wiccans are teenage girls because (1) the religion of Wiccan appeals to females because the diety is a female vs. most other religions were it is a male diety. Also (2) Wiccan is only recently gaining popularity. Older people are usually set in their ways and don't explore other religions while youngsters are more apt to try new things.
I do know a few older women who are Wiccans. But I will admit, I know no men who follow the Wiccan religion. I'm sure there are some out there, I just have never met them.

Its popular with the younger crowd, but if you head out to a Gathering or Festival, you see a lot of people from every age. Many of them are parents bringing their kids along. Its just the adults in Wicca are not quite as in-your-face about it, the lady who works down the hall from you might be Wiccan, and you may never know that. I know many middle-aged Wiccans, and I have alot of 20 or 30 something Wiccan friends.

Wicca is a religion for any age group and any gender.
It is also a religion for a person with any sexual-preference. It is one of the most open religions out there. Which, least to say, usually draws teenagers to it.
Most teenage girls go into Wicca expecting to find spells to turn their ex's into toads or how to get a boy's heart. This are the people that usually turn and leave the religion.
I went into Paganism (Wicca is a type of Pagan, like Lutheran is a type of Catholic) when I was 12, and now I'm 16 and still happily so a Pagan. And I am a girl.
So, make of that comment what you please, but, Wicca is a religion for all.

The vocal ones seem to be teenagers. The majority of our pagan community are probably in their 30's-40's. Our local covens do not accept anyone under the age of 18. The magic aspect of the religion draws alot of younger people, but after they see that it is a religion that requires work, some will stay but many lose interest.

Definitely not!! As a matter of fact I know a lot of people who practice Wicca and none are teenagers. I'm actually seeing more people practicing Wicca AS they age. Like myself, a lot of people get fed up with the big 3 (Christianity, Islam & Judaism) and are ready to join a religion that's about NOT hating and celebrating what nature offers us. In fact Wicca has attracted many more followers over the past several years. And contrary to what most people think, Wiccans do not believe in the existence of "Satan" so how could they worship him?

It does appeal to teenage girls (and boys too i have found) and quite a few will move on once the novelty wears off. A lot of witches use Wicca as a starting point for learning then move to a bit different tradition and quite a few stay for life. I know witches and Wiccans in their 60's - I'm over 40 myself.

I am not Wiccan, but I am a pagan witch, and I have been practicing witchcraft for over 10 years. I am 31 years old. I have friends who are Wiccan, and many have been practicing their religion for more than 20 years -- and although there are more women overall -- there are also many men, both straight and gay, who are Wiccan.
It is true that there are "fluffly bunnies" as we like to call them -- the prepubsent girls and boys who claim to be Wiccan because they are trying to rebel.
And trust me, I dislike them more that you do.

No, it's not an accurate observation, WICCA, is a lifelong TRADITION.
You probably are only seeing teenage girls who are delving into black arts, not actually part of Wicca, but these teens don't know the difference and call it Wicca, simply because the word sounds cooler.

A polytheistic Neo-Pagan nature faith stimulated by utilising various pre-Christian western ecu ideals, whose important deity is a mom goddess and which is composed of using organic magic and benign witchcraft. a team or community of believers or followers of this faith. maximum Christians won't admit this yet as far as different religions bypass Wicca isn't a undesirable thank you to stay. some undemanding Christian techniques are from Wicca. as nicely as another pre-christian practices. there's a ton of issues taken from the Pagans that Christians practice on a each and every day foundation.
