i got a dog a how do i train it

If you have NEVER trained a dog before, I'd say obedience training classes...petco/petsmart offer classes, or you can find an individual...you will get more out of seeing it done rather than try to follow any ones advice here.

Take it to obedience training classes.
As far as reading material, there is a lot of propaganda out there. I recommend "Cesar's Way" or watching "Dog Whisperer" with Cesar Millan.
It is very important to train him right. I got a dog two years ago when he was 3 and he has some issues of his own, but I have been working very hard to improve him. Good luck!

Go and check the schedules at petco or petsmart sometimes during the weekends they have people teaching how to treat and train animals. It is very help full.

Well first you need to see what he usually does around you then if you want to teach him to shake pick up one of his paws stare him in the eye and say "Shake!"Do it every day and there's a good chance he might learn it!
