During a quiet moment recently, I was pondering this mess in Israel and Mel Gibson's alleged comments about Jews starting all of the trouble and wars in this world. I became suddenly aware that as a whole, the Hebrews are a very peace loving people. They stay right to them selves and leave everyone else alone and wish to be left alone. They are not out stomping around the earth trying to make everyone bend to their will. They are safe and secure with their own beliefs and do not care what the world thinks. So, how is it that a religion, based so staunchly on peace and love could be the basis for so, so, many wars throughout history? I have begun to feel that Christians as a whole are a real violent bunch. I feel guilty for questioning what I and all of my ancestors have believed for so long. Does any one have any bible passages that can help me sort this out? For the first time in my life, I wonder, was Jesus the Mesiah?

Jesus is the Messiah. Read Isaiah53 and Psalm22 for starters. Here in the scriptures of the Old Testament (the Jewish Bible) we find clear references to Christ. Be careful of pitting to great a dichotomy between Judaism and Christianity. The latter is fulfilment and flowering of the former. Look to Christ and find the PEACE that passes all understanding (Phil 4).

I don't think being God's son is what made him the Messiah, so much as completing his mission and performing the atonement. The violence of people who claim to be His followers really has nothing to do with it. That's like telling a good mom with a rebellious child, that maybe she's not really his mom - doesn't make sense.

best wishes.

The Israel of today are not any children of God than you and I. God's children are those who do His will and not a geo-political entity that was just a channel through which God revealed Himself to man, just as He used Mary to bring forth Jesus.
