golden retrievers are incredibly affectionate and are the biggest lap dogs around (my parents have 2), they are such goofballs. But I think most dogs are affectionate.
I have a Maltese that my husband calls shadow because he follows me everywhere.
<---and our newest addition Cashew (pug/shar pei mix) is very loving as well. I hope she doesn't grow out of it!

I don't think there is any one breed that is most affectionate. Depends on the dog's personality and how it is raised. Whether or not the owner treats the dog well, etc. I have a miniature Yorkie and a Chihuahua mix and they are both very very affectionate but have known some that weren't. And yes, retrievers are great dogs.

Any dog will be affectionate if they receive affection, love, care and training. Even dogs who have been abused, lack human touch and care will be affectionate when they receive proper care. Except those dogs that are trained to fight. Even Pitt-bulls when raised from puppies will be loving dogs.
I have 2 schnauzers and they are the most affectionate dogs. But I also had a rottweiler and she was affectionate almost to irritation. Your golden retriever is a loving affectionate dog by nature, as most and will be a joy in your life if you train, play (they love to play outside and love frisbee's) groom and give love.

Well on any onther case I would have to say my dogs but since I own American Staffordshire Bull Terriers, I know that they have a bad name. Any dog can be tamed to be affectionate and loving but in my opinion I would have to say a Labrador or Golden retriever is one of the kindest dogs ever..

I would say you have a good pick with golden retriever. Labs are also very affectionate. I have a beagle/lab mix and he is very affectionate.. I would say that part comes from the lab.

Any dog, when treated with respect can be affectionate and loving towards their owner. But I own a Golden too and they are as affectionate as they come. Their sweet temperament and teddy bear look make them even more lovable.

I agree with you - Golden Retrievers. I mean, who's ever heard of a mean Golden Retriever?

a golden retriever is the best. or maybe a labrador. but then, retrievers are quiet when you want them to be silent, they're very affectionate and loving, loyal and fun to play with.

My dog is the most affectionate. I have a Chihuahua.
Actually, any dog that is well loved and cared for is going to be the most affectionate.

I don't necessarily think that a particular breed is more affectionate than another. I think that it has to do with the individual animal.
