I booked a ticket for Flagstaff, AZ to Houston, TX on US Airways for next week, but I just realized that I accidently booked it a day early. You can apparently standby for an earlier flight for free of $25, but not a later one. It appears that I have to pay a $150 fare difference (fares went up because it's less than a week before the flight) plus a $100 change fee. Thats $250, on top of the original cost of the ticket, $200. Does anyone know of any ways around this? Will crying to the customer service rep do any good? I feel like it's a lot to pay for a one day difference, and I'm just changing from Tuesday to Wednesday, both typically low travel days.

There are really not any ways around it. I guess you can try calling or showing up at the airport crying, but I have not known that to work if more than one situation (I'm a travel agent). In this case, I'd just buy a new ticket. Yeah, you're going to pay for it, but it may be cheaper than paying a change fee on top of it. Do you want me to check any fares for you? Just email me and I can give you the lowest fare I can find. Tell me what day and time, and if you're flying out of IAH or HOU (Intercontinental or Hobbe).

Well, I would just pay the fees, because I don't know any way round it. I do have one idea though. Some airlines let you have a delay ticket. You can pay for your ticket and everything. At the last minute, they let you cancel the ticket and deffer it. You can use that same ticket for a year up ahead. If US Airlines lets you do that, I would do that. After you've done that, you can then rebook it for the next day, for no charge.

I quickly searched through their website, I didn;t find anything, as far as if you could or not. Try calling or look at the site again.

Your assessment is correct - basically you can always move to an earlier flight for no fee or small fee - but taking a later flight they scew you because you can not turn back time. They got you! You can 1) suck it up and pay the differnece 2) check for another flight altogether - or 3) change your plans to fit in with your current ticket.

Well all the low cost fares comes with huge penalities... the best you can do is use the same airline and take a later flight... because normally date change penalty is lesser than refund charges

Call the airline very upset over a medical emergency and maybe they will offer the change at no cost. It happened to me but it really was an emergency. make sure you are crying when they answer,
